    April 14 @ 6:00 pm - 7:15 pm
    Cost: $0 - $15

"This webinar is hosted by the University of Maine Cooperative Extension.

Across Maine, community gardens are increasing food security by bringing people together to grow food for their communities. This panel will explore how collective garden spaces allow neighbors to work side by side to grow fresh, local food that is donated to food security organizations. Panelists will share real examples from across Maine and offer practical insights into how community gardens get started, build partnerships, and grow into lasting resources that strengthen local communities.

Speakers: Rachel Stamieszkin, Master Gardener Volunteer in Cumberland County, Johnny Sanchez, Collective Gardens Program Coordinator and Volunteer Coordinator at #FoodAndMedicine (FAM), and Julia St. Clair, Agricultural Programs Manager at #BrunswickTopshamLandTrust."

  6. The #VictoriaBC Urban Food Table #UFT is a #volunteer #AdvisoryCommittee dedicated to providing informed support to Victoria City Council in matters related to #FoodSecurity policy & decision making. We meet the second Wednesday of each month. Our members are #FoodSystems & #sustainability professionals and include urban and rural farmers , local businesses, educators, community association and garden representatives, health workers, dietitians & environmental stewardship not-for-profit staff. We view local #FoodProduction as fundamental to a healthy & sustainable food system, and share the common goal of a #FoodSecure region.

Our strategic goals focus on urban farming, community and home gardening, food equity, soil restoration, land and biodiversity stewardship, waste-reduction and composting, pollinator support, First Nations Reconciliation, and celebrating local food.

The Urban Food Table meets in a hybrid/online format on the second Wednesday of every month from 4:30pm - 6pm. If you are interested in joining the UFT, or to learn more - email at [email protected] or through the form below.

  7. Help us rescue surplus fruit, reduce food waste, and share fresh, local produce with community members who need it most.

In 2024, we harvested 30,757 lbs of fruit with the help of 151 volunteers!

Through the #FruitTreeProject - we harvest fruit that would otherwise go to waste—and ensure it reaches community members who need it most. By transforming how people engage with the Urban Orchard and with one another, we’re reimagining what a connected, resilient local food system can look like!

Your donation helps sustain this invaluable program, which has been operating since 1994 — a long-standing pillar of community care and food-sharing in the Greater Victoria Area.

    Every contribution counts.

Running the Fruit Tree Project costs approximately $145,000 per year. Your donations directly support:

Wages for staff who coordinate harvests and volunteers

    Coordination for fruit redistribution

Vehicle and fuel expenses to reach trees across the region

    Insurance to keep everyone safe

    Cold storage to preserve fruit

Website administration and outreach tools to connect with the community

Every dollar helps us rescue more fruit, support more families, and strengthen Greater Victoria’s local food system!

  8. My first fruit sorting volunteer shift is on August 1st morning. I'm with the LifeCycles Fruit Trees Project team. I signed up as a trees assessor & fruits sorter.

We're always seeking more #volunteers for several different, ongoing, local #FoodSecurity projects.

Please learn more about what we do & how to get involved as a volunteer or how to donate to help us keep doing community food security work.
