Anyone self hosting pixelfed and ever not been able to log into your instance? I keep getting the error in my screenshot and when I check that against the debugging tool it gives me something about an invalid key.

The #Fedivere is Awkward
Our current expectations, developed over many years, make us assume that we can click and see it all, or click and interact. That's what the current social media main-stream services offer.
When I am trying to introduce new people to the Fediverse, it's hard to keep them on-side when they realise their experience is impeded.
I don't know what the solution is, but I believe things need to change if we are serious about making the Fediverse less geeky and more user-focused.

Ich bin schon ziemlich lange im #Fedivere #Fediversum unterwegs. Aber nachdem ich Mastodon eine kurze Zeit intensiver genutzt hatte, fehlte mir einiges – ich ging zu #FireFish und wurde ohne mein Zutun zu einem (sehr zufriedenen) #SharKey-Nutzer.

@MoniqueVooijs Ik denk dat er maar één alternatief is: een alternatief waar je als prominent of organisatie je eigen regels kunt bepalen, m.a.w. waar je je eigen server kunt hosten. Als voldoende organisaties (zoals social.overheid.nl) dat inzien, dan gaan mensen dat gebruiken, dus #fedivere (of: #mastodon dus). #BlueSky, tja, het is vooralsnog niet open en waarom weer een centralistische organisatie je systemen laten beïnvloeden? Dingen opbouwen kost tijd..

vorneweg: Ich bin ein großer Fan von Wikipedia aber...
Bei Wikipedia wütet seit einer Woche beim englischen Eintrag für "Fediverse" ein alteingesessener Editor und schreibt den Artikel um. Bei seiner Suche nach "relevanten" und offiziellen Quellen wird der Editor nicht recht fündig - schmeißt alles was nicht nach diesen Quellen belegbar ist raus bzw. findet in Bezug auf das #Fedivere so nur Halbwahrheiten.
Wir wissen ja hier schon eine Weile dass die relevanten Dinge nicht ganz einfach zu verstehen und zu erklären sind und auch eine Entwicklung durchmachen. Und... Wir beobachten schon länger dass die oft zurecht als "Qualitäts-Medien" bezeichneten Institution mit dem was das Fediverse ausmacht völlig überfordert sind.
Es hat sehr lange gedauert bis die Ignoranz einer zaghaften Neugier gewichen ist, die aber immer noch nicht dazu führt, dass die Dinge wirklich durchdrungen werden. Beispiel dazu gibt es viele. Die meisten kleben an Mastodon. Herr Böhmermann wünscht sich z.B. da regelmäßig immer wieder ein besser durchsuchbares Fediverse - was aber doch bei einem Netzwerk wo die Daten dezentral verteilt bleiben sollen einfach nicht möglich ist. Er will oder kann es einfach nicht verstehen. Ja - es ist auch nicht so einfach alles neu zu erlernen wenn man über Jahrzehnte sich an anderes gewöhnt hat - OK - aber in Bezug auf Wikipedia das nun mal auf gewisse Quellen in der Regel angewiesen ist wird es nun noch wieder ärgerlich.
Auch im deutschen Wikipediaeintrag zum Fediverse werden Dinge zitiert die einfach nicht stimmen. Harmloses wenn auch ziemlich peinliches Beispiel ist der nach meiner Wahrnehmung von Peter @Welchering, (welcher sich als einer der ersten Journalisten ab 2020 für das Fediverse stark gemacht hat) erstmals verwendete und bis heute vergeblich versucht einzuführende Begriff "Fediversum". Das sollte wohl der deutsche Begriff für Fediverse werden. In seinem FAZ Artikel vom November 2021 erklärt Herr Welchering: "Das Kunstwort setzt sich aus den Begriffen Federation und Universum zusammen." #^https://www.faz.net/aktuell/technik-motor/digital/alternativen-zu-youtube-co-ueber-die-eigenen-daten-bestimmen-17652705.html Das Wort "Federation" gibt es aber gar nicht im Deutschen, doch prompt wird der Begriff in Wikipedia übernommen.
In diesem FAZ Artikel wird auch fälschlicherweise „GNU social“ als "erster Testballon" des Fediverse bezeichnet obwohl diese Software erst später entwickelt und erst um 2012 so genannt und der Anfang 2008 von Laconica /status.net auf Idendi.ca gemacht wurde. Auch diese Tatsache wird in dem Wikipediaeintrag falsch übernommen und ist dort sei Jahren so nachzulesen. Werde das gleich mal versuchen dort zu korrigieren.
Bei Wikipedia als nicht etablierter Editor mitzuschreiben ist leider aber zuweilen immer wieder gar nicht so einfach. Auch dazu gibt es viele Beispiel. Hier ein weiteres Beispiel in Bezug auf das Fedivese: seit Jahren wird ein Artikel zu Hubzilla von den Wikipedia Editoren blockiert (mittlerweile ist der Text nur noch auf archive.org vorhanden #^http://web.archive.org/web/20221222073916/https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Hubzilla ) weil die Relevanz dieser Software angeblich nicht vorhanden sei und weil angeblich überprüfbare Quellen fehlen die das Gegenteil darstellen könnten.
Die Quellen sind durchaus zahlreich vorhanden, man müsste sie nur richtig werten können und jeder der das tut weiß dann auch, dass diese Software seit 2015 einen sehr wichtigen Beitrag bei der Entstehung für das was wir heute das "Fediverse" nennen geleistet hat.
Wikipedia Editoren und immer öfter leider auch Journalisten kennen sich aber eben nicht aus, sondern zitieren "relevante" Quellen.
An diesen Beispielen ist zu verstehen was für ein Problem in unserer digitalen Wissensvermittlung heute besteht. Alle schreiben von einander per copy & paste ab ohne die Dinge selber zu ergründen. Mit Werkzeugen wie ChatGBT & Co wird es wohl noch extremer. ... mal schauen wie es weitergeht.

Here is my 2 cents on the threads thing.
A lot of personal services like Tattoo Artists, Barbers/Stylists, food trucks, small business, creators, and many other businesses use Instagram as their primary method of socializing their work and use it heavily.
A lot of those people may want to expand their business with the #fedivere we all should support it.
Many have years invested in Instagram followings based on my personal experience working with them people.
Humans still post content regardless of who owns the platform they choose, it’s the whole reason federation works.
