Today, I build a #mastodon instance on my own #vps using #docker in #coolify
I wasn't expecting it to be that hard.
But man, mastodon is a beast.
It has so many configs, services, settings, etc. It's actually insane.
Especially if you set #s3 storage, #webfinger etc
In the last months, I've been using #fedihost to host my current instance.
Since I seem able to run it myself, I might move and save the money.

I'm currently using #yunohost to #selfhost my personal stuff on a VPS.
It helps a lot.
But if I'm going to run a public #mastodon instance, I'm not sure if I would trust it.
I think yunohost is best for personal and small projects.
I'm scared it would break or give me issues on the longer term.
Ideally, I think I would need to use #docker , which is the real professional way of hosting things, but I've never used it.
Or use a managed service like #fedihost

This video voices a lot of my frustrations with #YouTube. I’ve wanted to jump ship for years and I’ve been trying to find alternatives like #PeerTube… the main barrier for me is the price of storage.
I have over 800GB of videos on my YT channel currently, which far exceeds most of the plans on the hosting services I’ve seen. If I want to back up my current channel AND keep making videos on a hosting service, it’s not clear if I’d be able to add more storage as needed, let alone be able to afford it. And I don’t even make videos for money - I can only imagine how hard it’d be for creators who rely on videomaking to pay the bills.
#Google knows video hosting is expensive, and that keeps content creators like me tethered to their monopoly. I’d be so much happier if I could just completely cut ties with the company, I would LOVE to have my own website to host all my content, I just don’t know how I can feasibly do that without making myself broke in the process 😩💚

This video voices a lot of my frustrations with #YouTube. I’ve wanted to jump ship for years and I’ve been trying to find alternatives like #PeerTube… the main barrier for me is the price of storage.
I have over 800GB of videos on my YT channel currently, which far exceeds most of the plans on the hosting services I’ve seen. If I want to back up my current channel AND keep making videos on a hosting service, it’s not clear if I’d be able to add more storage as needed, let alone be able to afford it. And I don’t even make videos for money - I can only imagine how hard it’d be for creators who rely on videomaking to pay the bills.
#Google knows video hosting is expensive, and that keeps content creators like me tethered to their monopoly. Slowly making progress on parts of the site including the Fediverse Hosting. Just need to detail the actual Fediverse Hosting pages, along with the servers such as bikersgo.social and app.southampton.social.
There's obviously so much more work that I've got with vex.blue.
I might have to refactor the whole site in the future but always open to feedback.
