I may have taken #FuckOffFriday a little too literally on Twitter today, but Elon has really just taken things too far.
He has now marked all Substack links as spam, and you can no longer like or comment on any outlines to Substack.
Anyway, so happy that this is the first #FediFriday of many more #FediFridays to come!

I think that finding new people in the Fediverse is one of the hardest things about getting here, and since there is no algorithm, having a slow feed is one of the biggest problems that people face in making it sticky here when they get here. I think that #FediFridays will make this better, but I think it's also important that everyone share good people to follow!
So, who do you love to follow? Who shows up in your feed and makes you happy? Share a couple of people in the comments!

Long running, oft-fined for crimes like money laundering and sanctions violations #cryptocurrency exchange #Bittrex announced it would be easier for them to leave the USA than to prove to American regulators a few days ago.The best part is that #Bittrex gave people ~48 hours to setup bank accounts for wire transfers.
gonna be a long weekend for some #Ponzi schemers....

Great article by @mikeburgersburg about #Coinbase's sketchy af banking partner #CrossRiverBank goes through the Congressional accusations of #PPP / Covid relief fraud on a massive scale, the incredible #predatorylending schemes this bank is running through its partners at companies like #AFRM and #UPST, and other aspects of Cross River's "interesting" business model.
Doesn't even get into the $100 million investment from the Malaysian police inspector who "investigated" the theft of $4-5 billion in one of the greatest financial scandals of all time, #1MDB (fun fact: the movie "The Wolf Of Wall Street" was funded in large part by this massive theft from Malaysia's working people). I'll be getting into that part on my own substack next week.

I have taken the time to personally walk some incredibly tech savvy people through the transition to mastodon this week, and as ridiculous as it may sound to me, I can see where there are still real barriers to entry, depending on your perspective on certain technical things. And that’s something that just requires better UI, better documentation, better explainers, all very overcomeable hurdles.

and that’s totally fair. some of them know nothing of the fediverse, or don’t follow enough people, or haven’t found the right apps or tools, or haven’t found the right ways to interact. these things take time and we have to give people grace and time!
