Unexpectedly preaching tomorrow. Just checked the gospel reading.
Right then I'll be naming a few names then.
"Very truly, I tell you, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold by the gate but climbs in by another way is a thief and a bandit"
-
Your annual reminder that today is NOT Easter Saturday. That is next week.
Today is Holy Saturday as it's HolyWeek. Easter does not start until Sunrise tomorrow.
-
Any #FediChurch folk out there with Order of Service for the BCP 1928 Revision (CofE)? Just discovered the service sheet I've been given for the service tomorrow only has the responses in it!
-
The person reading Acts this morning pronounced Ananias as "Anus-sy".
(I'm no expert on 1st century Palestinian names but I have always pronounced it "Anna-NI-as")
And honestly it made my morning.

It's not a burning (ha!) issue. But if you are going to argue at length with the vicar over your desire to have a three-colour advent wreath.
Have the decency to light the right candle on the 3rd Sunday of Advent.

I see the Nigerian Anglican Church has rejected the appointment of the Archbishop of Canterbury. This is predictable from a particularly difficult part of the Anglican Communion.
The Communion in it's current form makes little sense in the 21st Century and this proves why.
We really do have to do something about this horrendously troubling legacy of Empire.

I'm slightly in fear of tomorrow's announcement of the new Archbishop of Canterbury.
Not just because this is a difficult and tricky time for both the CofE and the Anglican Communion.
But because there is a very good chance my own superb bishop is high up the short-list. While she would be very very good appointment to Lambeth, she would be desperately missed here in the diocese. #FediChurch #Archbishop #Anglicam #ChurchOfEngland

Wonderfully comic moment during the mornings gospel reading where the lovely lady reading had quite the accent. And what it sounded like was:
"And at his gate lay a poor man named Lazarus, covered with sauce"
..."even the dogs would come and lick his sauce"
Had to cover my giggles with a cough. #FediChurch

Niche Toot:
Having had to pullout of this week's clergy conference I realise that it is now at least six years since I've been to The Hayes.
Can I even call myself a Christian anymore?
-
Any church folk had experience with chums.org?
I have a parish who wants to use it, but I have my reservations. It claims to be FOSS but is US based and I can't find a privacy policy.
Not sure how secure data would be on it, suspect it wouldn't be GDR compliant....

I had cause to be at Cathedral evensong. I am reminded that I dislike evensong intensely, cathedral evensong doubly so.
-
In a related question.....who is asking for this????
-
I realise this toot will reach a very tight Venn diagram of niche interests but here goes anyway:
It turns out the Bartlet method of jacket adornment should not be attempted with a cassock when stood too close to the paschal candle. 🔥
-
And now having been duly installed by the Lord Bishop @Ratryn has the cure of souls of this parish. #FediChurch #NicheToot
-
It was with great satisfaction I observed that in the interviews we were conducting today the Bishop was writing in episcopal purple ink. #FediChurch #NicheToot

No one talks about the 10:40 window anymore.
-
A conversation about the 1928 Prayerbook revision (yeah I know) has reminded me of this joyful thing offered by my friend Simon a few years ago.
Uploaded here as Invidious is currently being blocked again and I refuse to link people to Google services.

Truly not funny but also simultaneously the best Church Times headline ever! #FediChurch #NiceToot #ChurchTimes

Does this hassock come in other file formats?

Oh look. The manikin is a member of HTB. #NicheToot #FediChurch

It's 9:30 and I've already had 0hone calls from the Archdeacon and suffragan Bishop.
Only need the a call from the diocesan Bishop and my senior staff bingo card will be full.
-
It was a close one, but the most steely but amicable priest in TV land won.
Though he'd be embarrassed by the whole thing really.
Congratulations Francis. 🎉🎉🎉🎉

Recently, I had an article published in The Linguist on remote #ChurchInterpreting. Feel free to take a look.

CW: Content Warning usage is bizarre.
Been thinking about Content Warnings (CW) and how I should use them. Thought I'd look at my feed and scroll back to the last twenty CW's. Look what wasn't CW'd and what was CW'd.
Un-CW'd Topics that were posted about but are potential CW
a. mass shooting
b. homosexuality
c. Child abuse
d. Crimes committed by Drug Cartels in Mexico against the church
e. Church division
f. Abuse and Trauma within the church
g. Racism
h. Drag, Trans and kids
i. Killed in the line of duty
j. Christian Nationalists are satanic
k.- AuschwitzHere are the first twenty Content Warnings (from the same data set)
1. Twitter, Musk, faith groups, Trump
2. online communities and trust
3. subtoot
4. Mastodon House Keeping - DM’s
5. Rant on satellite constellations #SatCons
6. Covid Vaccine Boosters, masks
7. want to see a really cool telescope? (A Thread)
8. Labour praised by Farage
9. Cycling job, Basildon, Essex, UK
10. brexit horror show continues
11. Covid Vaccine Boosters, masks
12. Bylines update
13. Personal work stuff: Tired
14. Covid Vaccine Boosters
15. Brexit truth from a very surprising source
16. Meta, Mastodon
17. CW about CWs
18. Bereavement experience
19. mastodon
20. Christian NationalismLooks like CW's are primarily about providing post summaries or talking about things the the poster is sad about. Not what the audience might not want to see. I suspect the sentiment of 'I feel strongly about this and I want everyone to know' leads people to not think about CW which would reduce the reach.
note: most of the people I follow are Christians. Covering a diverse range of theologies.

@thechurchmouse
I just shared the link to FediChurch with a (priest) follower from the BirdSite who said that he was having trouble finding friends here. I think that FediChurch may be his solution! Thanks to you for all of the hard work, Church Mouse 🐭
