I do like a motif and I've been trying to calm down my work lately, with zero success i might add. I saw an exhibition of Australian aboriginal work recently and was influenced by it. I respect their art, and situation so have not tried to mimic it directly.
I went back some weeks later after the exhibition had ended and bought one of the paintings as it had such an effect on me. I was lucky it hadn't gone, and can't wait for it to arrive. -

This is my sketchbook practice today. The prompt was get repetitive. Every year our beautiful amaryllis never let us down, reds pinks, whites, soft yellows, dark brooding reds.
The leaves are beautiful too. Slightly translucent in strong light they create beautiful overlapping patterns and shapes along the windowsill. So cheery from December to March.
This is part of a daily practice I’m doing with #insightcreative30daychallenge on Instagram
It’s very intense. And I’m already thinking of dropping it down to every other day because of the nature of the practice. I’ve a tendency to overthink and go down rabbit holes for hours on end, all great stuff but other things need attending to too.

This piece was from the Judy Woods Starts workshop.
The course showed us how to build up layers using collage, thin paint, line, stencils, thicker paint and more stencils.
It was an interesting process but I got rather tired doing it. We had to do 3 at once and whilst I understand the logic of it I found the mental toll of constant choices, decisions, and focus too much.

#today I started a course by Cheryl Taves called #insightcreative30daychallenge which is not exactly a catchy title.
The aim of the course is to guide you to more meaningful, mindful and regular sketchbook practice.
This is achieved through prompts, questions and journaling which is not something I'm used to.
I've recently completed 2 courses #30DaySketchbookChallenge and an abstract course so I need some quiet sketchbook time with no pressure to create a 'piece of art'.
I'll be interested to see how it progresses.

The challenge was to spend no longer than 30 minutes using only unconventional art tools.
I used the items shown plus my fingers. The paper is flip chart paper.
It took about 20 minutes.
I stopped because I was tired and couldn't focus any more.
It feels like an old style, far Eastern landscape made modern to me.#BoldlyAbstractChallenge

A #ceramics challenge. A friend commissioned me to make 2 ramen bowls & 2 teacups that were roughly the same shape as a set she'd bought years ago.
Hers were mass produced and she wanted handmade work.
The difficulty was in scaling up the teacups because hers were smaller than she wanted.
So I took a bunch of photos & measurements & ended up with these.
I hope she likes them.
