Okay, #FediAdvice please. I need to print a document. A3, greyscale only, probably about 200 double sided sheets. 80gsm is fine. Loose leaf, no binding. What's the cheapest way for me to do that in the #UK? Bonus points if I can chose the grain direction.

I never owned a TV and just want to stream and game
I'm also considering building a Linux TV thing (with #kodi?).
Is there a specific tech that's worth buying? Are there brands to avoid?

I'm thinking that my next cellphone might be a Fairphone. I've generally tried to shop wisely for phones, and mostly I've been quite successful. They generally last me at least five years each, often a year or two longer.
I go with as close to vanilla Android as much as possible, with high RAM and good specs - never top-tier phones, but solid mid-range phones. I don't buy from Samsung, because I have no interest in having crapware foisted on me or helping a corporation violate my privacy.
My current phone is a OnePlus 6T, which is still running solidly after nearly seven years. But Carl Pei left OnePlus some time ago, and OnePlus has apparently gone downhill as a result.
The Fairphone sounds appealing, but I'm concerned that I might have to switch carriers. Meanwhile my son is pulling for a Pixel; I'd rather avoid doing business directly with Google because they're so fucking evil.
So...suggestions? Thoughts?

I tend to listen to my gut. It's not always right, but it usually is. And right now it's telling me that I could disappear from Mastodon at any moment. So I think it's getting a little more urgent for me to find a second account. I'm looking at the list of servers online, and the descriptions are helpful. But they aren't necessarily giving me the full picture. Don't know if anyone is able to help, but I'd like to hear suggestions for new servers - assuming that my posts here are still visible to others.
Sorry, but I've lived with censorship and shadowbanning for decades now. Maybe that has made me paranoid, but maybe it hasn't. I've had a good time here, and I hope to stay; but I should have remembered that it's never wise to keep all your eggs in one basket.
By the way, is there any good way to automatically post to more than one Mastodon account at a time? I think I asked that before, but I can't find the answer. Thanks!

Hi folks, Id love some advice:
My youngest brother is 10 years my junior at 25 and an army veteran. Both our parents were working long hours and away from home, my dad for about 40 weeks out of the year. I was parentified and my brother's caregiver until I moved away for college. For context, he currently lives rent free in my parents' basement as he saves for a home down payment.
When asked to join the #NoKings protest this Saturday, he said that we needed to respect his decision not to go. When questioned he doubled down. The ensuing conversation had a lot of deniability on his part around: the state of the nation, the importance of peaceful protest under the first amendment, and importance of showing solidarity for those not sheltered by privilege.
I don't want to give up on him. Any ideas or suggestions?

It's time to make the jump from Windows 10 to Linux (Mint).
Do I buy a slow 1TB SATA III SSD for my 10-year-old desktop for it?
Or should I buy a fast NVMe one + PCIe 2.0 adapter (No DXE = bootloader/UEFI hack)?
Or should I shill for a new machine with a powerful CPU, tons of memory, and blazing fast SSDs?

Fedi advice needed: If you were to HAVE to recommend a website building platform for budget conscious, non-technical small business owners (ie. farmers), what would you recommend?
(I know the CORRECT answer is to hire a developer, BUT pretend that's not an option.)
Edited: The audience is budget conscious and websites are somewhat low on their priority list. Currently, they use FB to reach their audience. I'll be teaching the importance of owned channels.

Even with all this in mind, it's easy to feel as though hashtagging is still overwhelming because of everything you have to look up. However, if you consistently draw or post things with overlapping themes, the process for tagging new posts can become easier as you get a more assembly line approach to it. When I tag my art posts, my thought process is tagging for my Constants,. basic Variants, and Key, Traits.
Constants would be what is always consistent for my character I'm posting for and my organization. #BeebzArt #TristeMiedo #catboy #OC.
Variants are what I use for what I think would be the most commonly searched objective truth about the drawing #furry #fursona #anthro #kemono.
Traits are pretty much anything else that I think would be the appealing thing someone would look for that would be appreciated in my work for one reason or another. It's also to help peoples filters who dont want to see these traits properly hide the posts so I dont make anyones day worse, heh.#femboy #nudity #ass *#chubby

In my opinion, its good practice to evaluate your posts and define the objective aspects of it. As an Example this could be Gender, Species, Kink, Theme, but those categories can be whatever you want. (It is at least good to CW and/or hashtag kinks or themes people may like to avoid, because even though your post would be filtered, not only does it not get you flack from someone who didn't wanna see it, you intrigue people who ARE interested to have a look)
If you had fanart from a show with 2 characters in a ship you like, the objective truths about the art you can tag for would be Name of the show, character names, ship name, or even what AU the picture is! Its your blog you can use hashtags to find your posts again too!
For organization sake I try to put the categories of my hashtag all together in order so I'd have something like Numbers, Alphabet, Double Digits It'd be like #1 #2 #3 #a #b #c #10 #25 #42 This is completely optional and order does not matter for visibility, its just something i like to do to keep organized

OK, so dear #Fediadvice
It seems Mozilla are turning horrible with the TOU of #Firefox. We have #Librewolf as an alternative, so I'm looking at that.
But this is the same Mozilla that does #Thunderbird Mail. Are they going to change the rules there too? Email is, arguably, a LOT more sensitive than stuff I do in a browser.
What alternative would be good (on Linux) for IMAP mail if they do that?

I'm considering buying a pair of Demonia Swing boots (or some cheaper knock-off) in patent, but I would love to know if somebody has any experience in them, if the wedge is uncomfortable, durability...
I already own a pair of Trashvilles that have served well but after 6 years they're starting to rip and the patent is crumbling.
Can you or anybody you know give some advice? Thanks!

#fediadvice I need to get a new pair of over ear headphones so need some advice.
I currently have some Jane’s Elit 85h that are about 4 years old and I have been happy enough with them. They do have an issue connecting to more than one device though.
I was thinking perhaps the Apple ones would be good to try next. Any suggestions are welcome. -
I want to add OpenGraph metadata with images to my blog so that when you link it, on social sites, you get a nice little preview panel. HOWEVER, I fear the “Mastodon effect” will either bring down my site or run up my bill. Are there specific things I can do with my site setup to minimize the “Mastodon effect”? I use Eleventy to generate a static site which is hosted on Netlify. I have a hunch Netlify can handle whatever I throw at it, but I fear getting a big surprise bill.

Hey floss folks,
I'm somewhat flustered by calendaring and associated functionality.
I need to set up some kind of appointment tool (ala Calendly). Nextcloud has one but getting Nextcloud and Sogo (Mailcow) to talk has been been too difficult.
I tried switching to 100% Nextcloud but getting its calendar to send invites didn't work (what am I doing wrong?).
I tried Cal.com but it didn't let me make an account!
What do you use/suggest, floss only please!
