#monopolies like the one you mentioned tend to zuck up everything while the #fedi, as I understand it, prefers to #federate and link instead. So, can't an actor provide a clickable, say matrix, handle? Has it to be mandatory? Has it to be a certain protocol? #AP? Or can there be #choice?P.S.: auto-discovery via #webfinger / #RFC7033?

I'm extremely happy to announce that Neighborgoods 0.1 has been released!
Neighborgoods is a platform which allows people and organizations to setup a #library of many different kinds, and #federate them together to provide a large resource for borrowing, sharing, and giving.
This is our first release, which has basic setup of #distributedlibraries , which are groups in an area where people share goods.

@realhackhistory Given the topology of Mastodon and other federated social networks, it should be clarified that the DDoS attack was against "mastodon.social", the first and one of the largest Mastodon servers...but all other instances were unaffected due to, again, the natural topology of federated social networks.

That adds to the list of languages with working microformats examples:
* HTML — modern, unversioned as well as every version since HTML4
* HTML3 — see https://microformats.org/wiki/html3

* XHTML — every version, 1.0, 1.1, 2.0
and now also:

Literally any HTML-like or XML-like language that has a space-separated class attribute can work with microformats.
In constrast, every alternative to microformats (most now defunct) required adding new attributes, or worse, entirely new elements, which meant revising every language one at a time (or use of fragile XML Namespaces), resulting in supporting only 1-2 languages at most (HTML and XHTML) in practice, and nothing else.
Re-using the "class" attribute based on the existing footpath that web designers made for encoding additional semantics into their HTML, and the similarly extensible "rel" attribute, was one of the best design decisions in any extension format ever.
After 20 years, microformats continue to serve as another example of “loosely joined” approaches being more adaptable, reliable, resilient, and longer lasting than “tightly coupled”.

Okay, but we can also #federate this now with the #fediverse. Like, #ActivityPub can handle search queries just fine.
So, just running on microcomputers, everyone can put on their own index whatever they want.
A person can _easily_ index 50,000 pages on a rapsberry pi.
A #FediSearch can broadcast any query to known peers. Each peer returns top-k results. The originating node can then aggregate and rank.
So @alice queries their FediSearch, it searches its own index and queries subscribed peers, those peers do the same thing. Nodes can choose who they trust, cache, etc.
The number of indexes pages will be something along the lines of `pages_per_nod * log(number_nodes)`. So a thousand nodes may only cover a million pages, but if the trust network is good, those are probably the most important million pages.
Also, I would venture that you'd have some nodes specializing in having a lot of pages: tens of millions, others just for stuff they like, others specifically for non-commercial interests. Selecting who you federate your search with really affects the ranking.

My experience with #bridgy is that it doesn't work for all supposedly #bridged #bluesky accounts. I've tried following a lot of the #aviation bsky accounts where there's a "web.brid.gy" bc they all migrated there from Xitter, & none of their posts show up in my Home feed save for maybe 1 or 2. I follow the web.brid.gy account here in #Mastodon but for some reason there are no posts, or if there are posts, they don't #federate for some reason with my instance. Disappointed

I have been up since 4:30 a.m., I have been cold all day long, I have been battling this site, I broke it after spending 2 days of creating and getting it working, and had to spend most of the day to recover only half, and the site is up, but federation seems to be a bit slow, and either no one can see me, or they dont care to see me, and those I follow, I cant see their feeds yet, so I am abit miffed as to what is going on. Along with my being #disabled and living in #poverty and all that entails, it has been a banner day, if you know what I mean.

When you #decentralize & #federate #socialVR, communities grow organically.
Imagine joining a dance server as you love dancing. You spawn into a custom hub world *dedicated to #VR dancing*. Event calendars, users chatting about last nights rave, user-placed rifts to worlds that *stay open* until they're empty: open invitations.
It's instant integration into a #social group. Just find a community you want to base in and the whole #fediverse is open beyond.
Maybe #BasisVR framework will do it.

The people deigning to pop over here from Bluesky are so blindered and insufferable, as to make the latest trend... something I'm just not interested in.
They see a hot tub. I see a bad case of pinkeye.
Why don't you refocus all that energy on making Bluesky fully #federate? Or tell you what their business model is going to be? Are they going to sell your data? Are they going to promise you NOT to sell out, which would ALSO sell your data?
Bluesky is pro-transparency. They can do that, right? -
