I believe that his chances of surviving beyond May are dependent upon a significant improvement. 4 defeats in the first 9 league games is sacking form.
He needs to lose no more than 2 in the next 9 or he's toast.

Defending is an art. Just sending players out isn't good enough, they need a tactical grounding, a plan.

An undisclosed Speyside bottled by Master of Malt. My guess would be Craigellachie - it's similar to a Cadenhead's 13 yo I got in Campletown earlier this year - maybe not quite as dark 😲

Wormtub 10 yo Speyside, Batch 5. NC, NCF, 56.1% abv.

It's everything I would expect from an intense sherry bomb. Plenty of sweet dark fruit on the nose, with dark chocolate and toffee. Hints of citrus. Thick, sticky, sweet caramel on the palate, chocolate orange, lovely gingery spice with a nice nuttiness. Long, warm, cardamom and spice finish. It really opens up with a few drops of water.

A great winter sipper and fantastic value at under fifty quid.

Friday night #football with a #ScottishCup match. with Threave Rovers at home to Stranraer - five levels above them. Could be close or perhaps a gubbin, but whatever, a big night for the wee toon of Castle Douglas.

I'm not saying anything new here, I'm not keen on defenders who need to be in the opposition half to be comfortable on the ball. We all enjoy that moment when the full back overlaps and fires the ball in but to do that and have an extra man up field you have to accept a less than brilliant defender.

Paolo Maldini was a great defender, worth his place purely for his defending but he was never going to fire crosses into the box.

You have to decide what you want.

I don't know whether it's just being a Spurs fan, or something more personal, but I can't think about tomorrow's game at Brighton without a sense of apprehension.

I suppose until we surpass the 'Heights Of Poch' we are entitled to have creeping doubts.

Brighton will have studied United's approach and will avoid it like the plague.
They won't let us settle on the ball and will be looking for set-pieces and corners.

Bit flimsy, in my opinion.

Far the prettier football, but we lacked Newcastle's incision.

They looked like scoring everytime they got in our half, we spent most of the game in their half but too many square passes again.

The midfield just don't look like a cohesive unit.

All in all disappointing.

and sipping this Bunnahabhain.

Bunnahabhain Stiùireadair - NAS, NCF, NC, 46.3% abv caramel, vanilla and briny seaspray on the nose. Sweet honey and fruit with hints of custard hit the palate along with cinnamon spice and cloves. Medium, slightly salty, spicy finish.
Not the most complex of drams but pretty good for a very reasonably priced Islay, and it's over 46% 😀

Tonight's accompanying dram is this rather splendid Lowland Blended Malt from Douglas Laing. I think the label is just one of the best!

The Epicurean, NAS, NC, NCF, 46.2% abv.

At first, there are lovely buttery notes which are joined by fresh lemon and mint and slight wafts of grass and hay. The first sip is of orchard fruit and is quickly followed by sweet caramel with sweet chocolate notes. Nice peppery finish which lingers on the tongue. A really pleasant easy sipper which can be picked up for under thirty-five notes.

American Cream Soda, honey, apples and pears on the nose. Initially, a bit of alcohol but after sitting for a few minutes, this softens and I get wee whiffs of Scottish tablet. Starts with citrusy orange that develops on the palate with some woodiness and caramel. Diving back in there are hints of sweet chocolate, orange marmalade and more honey. The high abv gives a lovely warm finish of ginger and pepper. Comforting oily mouthfeel. With the addition of some water, freshness develops. Wonderful dram from Woody Tan.

Watching #ScottishChampionship #football - Partick against Dunfermline and sipping at a couple of fine Geeries.

I love Glen Garioch and the 14 yo from Edinburgh IBs Tri Carragh is superb. - bright, fresh and satisfying. Lovely wafts of cherries and red fruit on the nose along with slight hints of vanilla and herbs. Creamy, buttery mouth feel with more orchard fruit and cherry sweets. Medium sweet floral and spicy wood finish. A wee touch of water brings out the complex flavours.

Glen Garioch 14 yo 53.4% abv, NC, NCF

The Murray McDavid is finished in Hungarian Tokaji wine casks and this really adds something. Many of the same wonderful tastes as the Tri Carragh but with added honey and orange notes. Juicy, oily, buttery mouthfeel with hints of tropical fruit and vanilla. Long warm, dry oaky, spicy finish.

Annandale Man O Words Founders Selection - Distilled 2016, bottled 2022 60.6% abv, NCF, NC.

Light honey colour in the glass. Floral and hay-like wafts and I get a hint of cooked vegetables and varnish! Spicy slightly bitter first mouthful which develops into sweeter baked apple and vanilla. Medium spicey, dry finish.

The distillery was established in 1836 closed in 1924 but re-opened in 2007. The distillery has released two whiskies named "Man O’Swords" after Scottish warrior Robert the Bruce who had strong links with Annan and Annadale, and "Man O’ Words" after the poet Robert Burns who worked as an exciseman in the area.

Tawny Port finish - bags of red fruit, jammy spice and vanilla.
10 y/o - Bright and citrusy, banana and pineapple. Zesty. Nutmeg spice.

Settling down to Friday night football and a Scottish Cup Game - Morton facing Motherwell with the winners through to the quarter-finals. I fancy Greenock Morton to get through.

I took the bus across town to the distillery to pick this up, Holyrood's first CS release.

Holyrood Distillery - Single Cask Series #147. 59.4% abv, NC, NCF, NAS

It is very much lighter in the glass than I thought it would be. Grassiness with a hint of mint, fruit and a slight floral note. The initial taste is really not what I expected and I'm not really sure what I am finding - certainly very strong stuff and needs water - touches of green apple a bit of farmyard and earthiness. Definite strong black coffee notes. It really is quite peppery - almost chilli pepper hot. Slight bitter finish and burny spicy lips!

I think I will let it sit for a while. 😀

"To Friar Jon Cor, by order of the King, to make acqua vita from eight bolls of malt" - this order from James IV to the monks at Lindores Abbey in Fife in 1494 is perhaps the first recorded mention of aqua vitae - "uisge beatha".

Sticky sherry-soaked fruit on the nose of prunes, dates and raisins with wafts of dark chocolate and vanilla. Chewy, spicy mouthful of cinnamon and ginger with hints of liquorice - it's like munching my way through a slab of my mum's Black Bun on Ne'erday. Smooth and sweet. with a long warming, spicy finish.

A wee bit saw for the pain.

It's not that Hibs are playing badly - Aston Villa are just too good. The dilemma for Hibs now is to sit back and try not to concede any more or try and make something of it and get gubbed. The latter I think and if they keep it down to half a dozen I'd be surprised.
