The Main Stage will serve as one of the festival’s central gathering places, with performances continuing into the evening on Saturday and Sunday. Visitors should check the official AACF website and social media pages for the latest performance schedule and announcements.

Explore the AACF Art Gallery Walk

The AACF Art Gallery Walk gives visitors an opportunity to discover and support artists working across a variety of creative disciplines.

Past exhibitions have featured paintings, jewelry, sculptures, ceramics, dolls, leatherwork, mixed-media creations, handmade books, stained glass and other original pieces. Guests can meet participating artists, learn about their creative processes and purchase artwork during the festival.

    Food and Vendor Marketplace

Come hungry and ready to shop. The festival will feature food vendors serving a variety of dishes alongside merchants offering clothing, accessories, art, gifts and other products.

The Vendor Marketplace gives local entrepreneurs and independent businesses an opportunity to connect with thousands of visitors while contributing to the festival’s lively street-market atmosphere.

    Family Village and Interactive Art

The African American Cultural Festival is designed for visitors of all ages. Family Village and the Creativation Station will offer youth-focused programming and opportunities for families to create, learn and explore together.

Festival activities may include chalk art walls, puppetry workshops, collaborative murals, theatre activities and other hands-on creative experiences. The official festival website describes the event as an interactive celebration intended to encourage curiosity, creativity and community connection.

A Raleigh Labor Day Weekend Tradition

The African American Cultural Festival began in 2010 after its governing board was established through appointments by the Raleigh City Council and Wake County Board of Commissioners. More than 15,000 people attended the inaugural event, according to the festival’s official history.

The festival has since grown into one of downtown Raleigh’s signature cultural events, bringing residents and visitors together to celebrate African American traditions from North Carolina and around the world.

This year’s festival continues its mission of uniting, engaging and educating the community through artistic expression, cultural programming and shared experiences.

    Tips for Attending the Festival

    Festival organizers recommend that visitors:

    • Bring a lawn chair if they would like seating near the performance areas
    • Check the weather and prepare for an outdoor event with no indoor rain venue
    • Bring a water bottle and stay hydrated
    • Leave private coolers and outside alcoholic beverages at home
    • Use caution before bringing pets because crowds and hot pavement may be uncomfortable or unsafe for animals
    • Allow additional time for downtown traffic, street closures and parking

Parking decks and surface lots are available throughout downtown Raleigh. Visitors should review posted rates and restrictions before leaving their vehicles.
