  1. Dappled Beginnings

I came across four white-tailed deer (Odocoileus virginianus) this morning while Charlie and I were out on our walk. The doe stood watchful, her head raised as three polka-dotted fawns grazed quietly at the edge of the forest. She clearly saw us—me and Charlie—but seemed to sense that we posed little threat. Still, as we passed, the fawns slipped into the woods with calm precision, no panic, just a gentle retreat. I wished I’d had my other camera with me—it has twice the range, and the deer were pretty far off. But the lens on that setup is so long, I’d look like one of the Three Musketeers, strolling along with a rapier slung at my side.

  2. We had a visit from twin fawns this morning, and their mom, of course.

  3. July 27, 2024, somewhere in Upstate NY, in the twilight...
(I assure you, I'm not a 'vegetarian vampire' on the hunt 😂) I just discovered a deer family grazing. It was a pleasure to watch the cute, curious fawns. (Not even 30 minutes later I had to see a group of Turkey Vultures feeding on a dead one.) Nature can be so beautiful and to the same time very cruel). #ajalexander #deer #fawns #animals #nature #twilight

  4. Babbies! Yesterday morning on the way to work. Don't worry, Mom was right on the other side of the blue car, waiting for the twins to cross. #deer #blacktaildeer #oregon #fawns #phoneography #throughthewindshield

  5. This mama deer has THREE fawns. Hard to get all of them in the picture. They were so tiny a few weeks ago. #deer #fawns #wildlife

  6. @angeliquesophia #Hiking in #RockCreekPark in #DC I got startled by a small group of #does and #fawns casually #grazing less than 20 feet from the #trail. I watched for a few minutes, then quietly moved on.

About a year later, a full #herd with #buck appeared on the #soccer area at #CarterBarron #park as we were on the track about 100 feet away.

The buck turned straight on, spread its front legs, and lowered its head to present its antlers.

Message received; I moved on 😂
