Happy leap FAWM! 🎉
Every 4 years the universe (or Julian calendar) gives us a bonus day to make music. Here toward the end of Feb, we at FAWM HQ start to reflect on what we’ve learned.

We know this might have been a better prompt for Groundhog Day at the beginning of the month, but your fourth and final lycial challenge for FAWM 2024 is: ANAPHORA (or REPETITION).
Repeat a word or phrase at the start of successive lines (or song parts) for emphasis. Examples: "Ain't Got No" (Hair), "Ima Be" (Black Eyed Peas), "Suddenly I See" (KT Tunstall), "Add It Up" (Violent Femmes)

If you're looking to mix things up, try a song that switches time signature, either between song parts (verse to chorus), or by inserting a bar or two here and there in a different meter! Examples: “Blackbird” (Beatles), “Hey Ya!” (Outkast), “Africa” (Toto), “One” (Metallica)

If you need a starting point, try ripping off this super-famous 8-note sequence from 300+ years ago: D A B F# G D G A
Is that the chord progression, the bass line? A melody? Do they all change with the same cadence? Lots of songs have done this: “Ladies and Gentlemen…” (Spiritualized), “C U When You Get There” (Coolio), “Step” (Vampire Weekend)

I just joined FAWM, even though I don't know if I have any brain cells left to write songs. I skipped last year. The year before with my first ever attempt, and I did come up with six or seven songs, most of which are at least singable. Hope I get some time and my muse shows up. #fawm2024

This year for #FAWM, I'm yet again going to take a different approach. For my first, I focused too much on trying to "complete" songs. I tried to perfectly mix and get everything release ready... that failed miserably.
For my second I just wanted to make video game music using only my Roland MT-32. That did not fail. I quite liked what I was able to do there.
This year... I want to focus on lyrics. Rough out basic loops using basic MIDI instruments, but really focus on vocal centered songs that I can spend the rest of the year turning into an actual album.
I doubt I'll actually record any vocals during February... but I may find some courage.
