For sure, I'm giving a vote to Discworld and Dark Souls, because how could I not. Amazing rides. But they've surely been chosen already, so I'll pick Doom (2016). The relentless, perfect action, the banging soundtrack, the visuals... A masterpiece.

Desmond's, sitcom by Trix Worrell focusing on a family run barbershop and community in Peckham. It wasn't the first Black British sitcom (that would be the Fosters, which also starred Desmond himself, Norman Beaton) but it was the first to be an actual workplace sitcom, with a focus on the different communities of black folks in the UK, such as a West African regular constantly at amiable odds with the mostly Wind Rush Guyanese older cast.

  3. @ami_angelwings #FavWorkD #FavWorkAtoZ Stephen King's The Dark Tower series. The first installment was great as a standalone work, sort of a postapocalyptic Arthurian-spaghetti Western fusion, which I imagined being set in a future earth where "the world had moved on." The second book, The Drawing of the Three, didn't introduce many complications to this impression, and had some great character development as well. I wasn't really happy with vol. 3, which introduced elements like points on earth becoming further apart as the Beams decayed, that broke plausibility for me and ruined my mental world-building. But I was becoming increasingly attached to the characters, and found many of the subplots -- like The Wolves of Calla -- very engaging. I also had an elderly orange tomcat, and became attached to Oy to the point that I was very moved by his death. The most irritating thing for me was encountering the Crimson King [spoiler alert] who in Insomnia had been a metacosmic force but in the Dark Tower conclusion was a feeble old man throwing hand grenades.

  4. @ami_angelwings ,

There are already a couple of fantastic works on today's #FavWorkD already, but if I have to think about a good narrative with an excellent soundtrack that tells one of the best time-travel stories...

    I will choose Richard Kelly's #DonnieDarko.

The Director's Cut have some text from "The Philosophy of Time Travel" that was originally on the film's website.

DDDD is for Dead Dead Demon's Dededede Destruction (or DeDeDeDe for short).

Tokyo got invaded by aliens, but they were weaklings. They stay cooped inside their huge starship, floating lazyly and ominously. Sometimes they attempt a sortie, but they get shot down immediately. Life goes on as usual, and death by falling debris is now a commin statistic like car accidents.

But the story is really about living day to day with the treath of an impending doom. It's also a social critique of the Japanese society. And it's a funny slice of life.

The anime adaptation is also really good if you'd rather watch than read

  6. @ami_angelwings For #FavWorkD I'm absolutely choosing the (started as a) webcomic known as Digger. Titled for its main character, full name "Digger Of Unnecessarily Convoluted Tunnels", Digger's a wombat who ends up involved in magical shenanigans involving not-exactly-dead gods and vampire vegetation and more weirdness besides. It's an epic fantasy with heart, and it WILL make you cry. Probably several times.

I love it, I re-read it every couple years, and I highly recommend it.

  7. @ami_angelwings Just sticking with my arbitrary theme of cartoons, I can think of quite a few good ones for ‘D’. But the one foremost on my mind right now is 🎵 Darkwing Duck! When there’s trouble you call D-W! 🎶 I enjoy a good combination of action and goofiness, and the theme song lives rent-free in my head.

He’s also had a few new comic book runs recently which I thought were quite good, including a crossover with Gargoyles.

What is your favorite work/series/art/etc that starts with the letter "D"?

Also include why you like it!

The rules are lax, you can include or exclude "A" or "The" as you want (e.g. The Predator can go under T or P). You can also remove the franchise name if you want (e.g. Star Trek: Voyager can go under S or V). Pronouns (I, you, etc) can't be excluded tho.

Include both the hashtags #FavWorkD and #FavWorkAtoZ so we can sort the answers.

You can also answer the previous #FavWorkA, #FavWorkB and #FavWorkC too if you missed it! There's no deadline.
