  14. @lightweight It might be useful to focus on the phenomena themselves. Yes, including #LibreWashing, #Fauxpen, as well as the whole distinction between software freedom and open source development. There are diverse actors taking different postures which may or may not jibe with our values. Dispassionately, we can still describe the “Ecosystem of Open” with diverse initiatives taking root despite counteracting forces.

In other words, #HowMightWe design this ecosystem for the common good?

  19. It might be time for a broad (and thoughtful) conversation on the limits of openness, in the #OpenEcosystem? How do #OpenGovernment and #OpenData work within the #FreeSoftware framework? Do #OERs run the risk of promoting #fauxpen and #OpenWashing?

  24. @Ammienoot @massonpj Thanks a lot!
These examples will be quite useful for a couple of activities I’ve planned around a specific approach to the “open ecosystem”. Not that it’s so new. Mostly a tie-in with a simple preso at #OKFestMtl and the famed “Landscape of Open” according to Paul Stacey in preparation for his tenure @oeglobal.
Surely, @epilepticrabbit and @dajb will have a lot to say @weareopencoop. Fighting #Fauxpen and #OpenWashing any way we can!

  29. Just got an email alerting me to this initiative: web3nz.xyz/ - on the front page, it talks about being an "open source initiative" and then has an "open source disclaimer"... none of which really explain what they mean by "open source"... I'm very puzzled. 'Web3', generally, is mega-hype about "strong IP" exploitation and NFTs, right? So first impression is this is looking fairly #fauxpen... How does WEB3NZ define "open source", I wonder...
