  1. One year without Dad. Carried his coffin, forgave the broken parts, kept the good. His last clear words defended us. Choosing grace on a Tennessee hillside. 🪦❤️ #GriefAndGrace #ForgivenessHeals #FathersAndSons

  2. I need advice from friendly, but faceless, strangers. Something has become clear to me this holiday visit. Since Mom died, Dad has dealt with it so poorly that I have, in almost every way, lost both parents. He will barely speak to me.

His process, if you can call it that, has been so self-centered that no one else has been given space to grieve, and I’m actually really angry about his behavior. And I don’t want to hear about how everyone grieves differently, because taking your grief out on other people is NOT an appropriate process.

But what would you do? It’d be great if we could talk it out, but we’re northern Minnesota stoics, and that’s not a great option for either of us.

    Any ideas out there? Advice?

EDIT: Big thanks to all for the thoughts and advice. I still don’t know what’s going to happen, but I appreciate all of the input. If nothing else, I thank you for listening to my outpouring of baggage. Thanks, all.

  3. 📚 Finished two great books this month:

📕 Fathers & Sons (1862) by Ivan Turgenev - explores the generational clash between fathers and their radical sons during a time of great social change in Russia.

📕 The Nine (2021) by Gwen Strauss - follows the escape of 9 women, resistance fighters, out of Nazi Germany

  4. "As I watched Max walk off with a group of foreign strangers into an unknown land, it felt like a glimpse of my future, and his. I was slowing down, and he was speeding up."

For The New York Times Magazine, Paul Tough writes a lovely essay about a father-son trip to #Uzbekistan and watching his child come into his own: nytimes.com/2024/03/17/magazin

  6. "As I’ve become an adult and struggled to manage my own temper, I’ve realized that Dad, like me, craved a calm and predictable environment, and his atypical eldest son’s chaotic energy destroyed his sense of equilibrium. I don’t fault him for this." —John Paul Scotto for The Sun Magazine

  7. Coffee, nowhere to be, little else to do, & so I’m #NowSpinning #FathersAndSons by #MuddyWaters.

This is the latest dispatch from #VinylMePlease &, as per their other offerings, the presentation is super high quality. I’m not super-familiar with this album, but the pressing is clean, flat, & centred. This is a #KevinGray cut & the SQ is warm, smooth & reminds me a little of the feel of Howlin’ Wolf’s London Sessions.
