Syracuse woman made an Instagram post months ago calling for the indictment of Jonathan Ross (the fascist who murdered Renée Good). She happens to be a poll worker. ICE agents visited her at her workplace, which is a polling spot, to tell her that making threats is illegal.

The White House took down the USA's top climate report. You can still find it at #InternetArchive (which we should all support with £, €, $, if we can).

Back at the end of March, the FBI kidnapped a Chinese academic couple, Xiaofeng Wang and his wife Nianli Ma. Apparently they're now free, but Indiana University, which employed them both, shamefully fired both of them without any process or explanation, and they were never charged with any crimes. Now they're seeking to unseal the warrant that was used to justify the raid on their house and their detention.
Another thing I learned from looking this up: the "China Initiative" which was basically a quota for the FBI to file cases against people linked to China somehow. Trump started it and Biden took two years to end it. This episode has people thinking it's back.

Message from our Big Boss this morning:
"It saddens me that we have a government that doesn't appreciate the hard work that [Person 1] and [Person 2] have put in over the years. I'd like you both to know that I sincerely appreciate your dedication and hard work for our organizations and the farmers of [Geographical Area]. Enjoy your retirement and know that the people who really count appreciate you both."
I had to cackle a bit at "the people who really count."

"I guess in theory, [Trump's] plans for mass deportation of immigrants could put a dent in housing costs in some areas where there's a large concentration of immigrants. But, of course, it would also be a big drag on new housing construction, since homebuilders rely heavily on immigrant labor."
--Scott Horsley, NPR economics reporter
I did some digging. Turns out the NYTimes didn't invent the conceptual linkage between mass deportation and housing costs. It comes from Karoline Leavitt, a 27-year-old Trump aide. Still, I'm unaware of Trump himself ever saying or suggesting anything along these lines. Seems like a post-hoc rationalization and now the media are spreading it as if Trump was saying it all along.

CW: USpol, fascism
Amazing to hear NPR casually talking about the GOP platform being a contradictory combination of social conservatism, economic populism, and subservience to big business as if that isn't exactly what Nazism is.
Well, maybe "amazing" isn't the right word. But you get my point.

Joe Biden doesn't want my vote. And yet the people who think his strategy is sound think I should vote for him anyway.

So here's the thing about the #SCOTUS decision, here's why I am not worried about it going one way or another.
Once you've gotten to the point of having "the highest court in the land," the court that is essentially 9 unelected rulers, making a decision about whether the head of the executive branch can go full dictator or not... you've already got a situation where the head of the executive branch is going to go full dictator. If it's not Trump, it will be someone else. They've already established that this is a decision that could go one way or another. That means that, just like they did with Roe, the fascists will just keep throwing money at the political system until they get the right combination of judges, "elected" officials, and circumstances, until it goes their way.

How the USA internationalized fascism during the Cold War era:
-
Last month, two climate advisors to the USA Export-Import Bank (aka the Ex-Im), which is controlled by the federal government and offers financing to overseas business ventures, quit in protest of the Ex-Im's proposed support for an oil drilling project in Bahrain. This month, the Ex-Im approved that project. Also on deck: natural gas export facility in Papua New Guinea and a pipeline in Guyana.
According to Oxfam, "the bank provided nearly $6 billion in financing for fossil fuel projects and $120 million for clean energy" between 2017 and 2021.

This is cowardice:
'“The choice was either to pull it or watch it get stripped out, attacked by Republicans, and ultimately killed,” Fetterman said...
While Republicans could have pushed for an amendment to strip the funding, the outcome of that vote is unknown. The senators’ decision to proactively strip the funding means it has no chance of getting through in this year’s bill.
Fetterman said he would work to get the center federal dollars in next year’s appropriations process. “This is not the end of this fight,” he said.'

Yet ANOTHER item in the "Elected Dems facilitate USA slide towards fascism": LibsofTikTok attacks a Philadelphia queer community center for allowing a fetish and kink group to rent its space for educational parties; both Democratic senators immediately throw the center under the bus.
