Construction began in 1967, with 40–60 people working on the project for a total of 1,318 days. On an area of 154,000 m², the radio telescope with its 100 m diameter dish was built – including laboratory and office buildings as well as the control room. 🏗️🔧 The ground had to support a load of 3,200 tons! 💪🗓️ Milestones:
1966: Foundation of the institute
1967–1971: Construction of the Effelsberg radio telescope
May 1971: Inauguration of the radio telescope 🎉
August 1972: Start of scientific operations 📡🔭 Today, it is the second-largest fully steerable radio telescope in the world! 🌍

✨ Ein Technikwunder aus den 70ern! 🚀
Begonnen im Jahr 1967, arbeiteten 40–60 Menschen insgesamt 1.318 Tage lang an diesem außergewöhnlichen Projekt. Auf einem Gelände von 154.000 m² entstand das Radioteleskop mit einer 100 m großen Schüssel – dazu kamen Labor- und Büroräume sowie der Steuerraum. 🏗️🔧 Der Boden musste dabei eine Traglast von 3.200 Tonnen aushalten! 💪

1967–1971: Bau des Radioteleskops in Effelsberg

@elaterite hi thanks for your comment, yes indeed this is what creates the #fascination of #paleontology, first to discover something that only accidentally got in circumstances to be fossilized, and thern to hold these prehistoric remains not only in hands, but even be able to scientifically analyse them with a diversity of modern #methods and finally to contribute to an understanding about how and why life could #evolve on #Earth. Not too much is more interesting and even more important.

Лара Крофт (Tomb Raider, 1996), Джилл Валентайм (Resident Evil, 1997), Регина (Dino Crisis, 2000). Широко знакомые имена героинь серий, начавших своё шествие в 1990-х и по своей знаковости ничем не уступающих иным известным космодесантникам и футуристическим пехотинцам. В определённой мере стык 1980-х и 1990-х можно назвать не только переходным периодом от схематичных пикселей к более красиво выглядящим спрайтам и, пусть порой пока и довольно угловатых полигонов, но и постепенной трансформации чисто аркадных персоналий в более полноценные образы. Другой составляющей данного периода можно назвать всё более частое появление представительниц прекрасного пола не в качестве второстепенных или фоновых NPC, или же внеочередных принцесс в беде, а в качестве главного субъекта в хитросплетениях того или иного сюжета. С началом 00-х данная тенденция станет носить всё более массовый характер и постепенно перейдёт в привычную обыденность. Сегодня хотелось бы вспомнить о нескольких героинях и связанных с ними играх, некогда мелькавших на экранах, но, со временем, зачастую позабытых.

Loving the moon 🌕
I've always been fascinated by the moon. Somehow, I just love the way it makes me feel. No matter how big, or small, when I see the moon, I feel more relaxed. If I'd ever have the money and the expertise, I would not mind owning a nice telescope 🔭 that would offer the option to add a camera to it... The moon, the universe... 🌌 I just am fascinated by it... It's never been a "special interest", as in, I've never dug deep into all the information about it. For me, it's more just the way it looks and how it makes me feel. I also enjoy the sun, but the moon, it's usually there when the night time is here, when the world is more peaceful and calm... And that soothes me more... Wow, what a fascinating Astronomy Day! The sky was mostly clear in both Bonn and Effelsberg, and our visitors were able to experience the partial solar eclipse (SoFi) on March 29 with their own eyes!
A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun. This only happens during a new moon and when the Moon is aligned with the Sun and Earth. There are three types of solar eclipses:
👉 Total SoFi - when the Sun is completely covered. A total solar eclipse lasts a maximum of 7 minutes and 32 seconds;
👉 Partial SoFi - when only a part of the Sun is covered;
👉 Annular SoFi - when the Moon is too far away and therefore too small to completely cover the Sun.Since the Moon is 400 times smaller than the Sun and exactly 400 times closer to the Earth, it can completely cover the Sun when viewed from Earth. However, a solar eclipse cannot be observed equally from all places on Earth, but only within a narrow geographic area. But wherever you are, remember: Never look directly at the Sun without proper eye protection! For example, SoFi glasses or a welding helmet with the appropriate protection level are suitable, but not regular sunglasses or binoculars.
In addition to the partially obscured Sun, several sunspots were also visible. The number of sunspots depends on the current phase of the Sun's 11-year activity cycle, which is why they are not always visible.
