  3. A woman on the Kaitaia market sells these artistic gardens with an old piece of tree covered in old man's beard (moss/ algae) adorned with artificial mushrooms that glow in the dark. Unique. #art #Créative #garden #aotearoa #farnorth

  4. "Winter" in the #farnorth is very colourful. All sorts of plants and trees flower at this time of the year. At the moment camellias are starting to bloom. #photography #aotearoa #flowers

  5. Another large banana flower out at the moment. There are several more flower stems emerging which will flower in about 3- 4 weeks. Even though its cooler over the next few months here in the #farnorth of #aotearoa, the bananas continue to develop, even though more slowly. #bananas

I laughed out loud, for real.

This is just daily winter life, not some weird exotic survival environment, for most of the prairies and virtually all of the north.

  9. @Virginicus To confuse things even more those who live in the north of the #farnorth say they come from the #farfarnorth - or FFN. An area that is not that well defined but possibly includes places like Kaitaia, Doubtless Bay and the oeninsula north to Cape Reinga.

  10. The fantastic view looking north west from the Karikari Winery Cafe this afternoon on a gorgeous day. #photography #farnorth #view

  11. One of the nice things about living in the #farnorth is being able to grow summer crops for an extended season - like these lebanese cucumbers which are doing really well at this time of the year. #aotearoa #gardening #vegetables

  12. We don't see much autumn colour here in the #farnorth because it is relatively warm. This is one exception. #autumn #aotearoa #photography

  13. An old steam engine probably used on logging railways in the #farnorth of #aotearoa back in the late 1800s/ early 1900s. Not sure of its heritage. Anyway its now in the kid's play area in Kaitaia. #photography #railways #history

  14. One of several massive anchors from the sailing ship d'Surville that were cut free during a violent storm off Tokerau Beach in #doubtlessbay in 1769. Currently located in the Far North Museum in Te Ahu, Kaitaia. #photography #aotearoa #farnorth #anchor

  15. Te Pu O Te Wheke. Puwheke maunga near the mouth of the Rangaunu harbour in the Far North. According to Maori legend Puwheke is a giant octopus that once blocked the mouth of the harbour and was turned into stone. If you ever visit the maunga you will see it has 8 legs at its base. #photography #aotearoa #farnorth #MāoriLegend
