So this is a wild ride. The 2024 Tasmanian of the year Stephanie Trethewey has threatened legal action against the tiny independent news site, The Tasmanian Times, for posting a press release from an animal rights organisation accusing her of owning an abattoir at which there was video evidence of animal cruelty.

Her argument is that, because she divested her shares from Local Meat Co in December 2023, it is defamatory to say that she is an owner of the abattoir. The footage in question was taken in August and September 2023, when she held shares in the business, and the sole remaining owner is her husband, so defamation seems a long bow to draw.
The Local Meat Co website also appears to have removed an article that references Sam and Stephanie Trethewey purchasing the abattoir at some point since late October (when the last Wayback Machine capture was taken: https://web.archive.org/web/20231028214520/https://www.tasagco.com.au/blog/author/stephanie/).
Instead of accepting some level of responsibility for the animal abuse that occurred at the facility that she co-owned with her husband, it appears that Mrs Trethewey's instinct was to attempt to protect her reputation with cover-ups and legal threats. As is often the case, this appears to be backfiring.

Continuing on from my little #vegan film watching phase, I finally made time to watch #Earthlings, and if I haven't made the connection by now, I would have after watching this film.
Directed by #ShaunManson and fantastically narrated by #JoaquinPhoenix, it gives an overview of how humans use (abuse) other animals. The film is categorised into #pets, #food, #clothing, #entertainment, and #ScientificResearch. The scenes were difficult to watch, and I couldn't help but simply feel sad. 😞
The quality of the footage shows it's age (2005), though it doesn't change the fact that all the horrendous ways animals are treated in the hands of human, no matter how grainy the footage may appear.
Quality of film footage is far more superior in the film #Dominion (directed by #ChrisDelforce, from #FarmTransparencyProject), which was filmed in 2018. The film footage is of a higher quality and is also categorised by animal, going into excruciating detail about how these poor creatures suffer, by the billions (or rather, trillions).
Despite this, I wouldn't disregard Earthlings, and recommend it to anyone who wants to have their eyes opened!
Both films are rated well on #imdb and sadly both aren't rated on #RottenTomatoes (I wonder why there haven't been any critical film reviews of both these films?).

Last night, me and my best friend watched 'Stunned', a short story on #ABC730 about how #pigs in #Australia are sent to gas chambers to be killed. They are then cut up and turned into food that normal people eat every single day. The scenes were horrific, and I applaud #abcAustralia for showing the footage before most kids bed time.
My best friend, who has been awakened to all the cruelty and suffering that is done to these pigs and other defenseless animals long before me, watched it with a numb sensation, whereas I imagine most people (that simply don't know that this is what happens every single day), may find the footage shocking. I couldn't help but sob and whimper, ashamed of myself for being a part of this system for so long.
