Its not a pretty story but it has had massive political consequences in the UK.

I wrote this in a comment but I'll say it here too:
I watched a video essay recently called the drama slop to school shooter pipeline and basically the thesis was that drama content when consumed regularly can gradually chip away at a persons empathy and become a gateway to hateful stuff. A great example of the gateway is notable transphobe turkish thomas. I highly reccomend everyone here in the comments check it out because watching it made me realize we really shouldn't have normalized what are essentially independent tabloids making a killing online starting pointless harassment campaigns for entertainment value. Once you realize one of the most hateful websites on the clear web is a gossip forum it becomes really obvious that the entire online drama circut has a far right influence.
As a longtime fan it really sucks to see this play out... I wish there just wasn't a monetary incentive to make baseless allegations online and drag out the inevitable conflict that ensues...
