Porn spam bots should do their own version of #FANuary.
They could call it #FAPril.
(With apologies to @adhdeanasl.) -
@ciclista_net @thinkslowly probier mal #fanuary - hier gab es eine Menge interessanter Vorschläge zum Folgen

To the bunch of people I follow here because I like what they post - informative to skewed to funny to inspiring to simpatico to challenging:
You go, people I follow on here!(#Fanuary, I guess. I'm aware that my not @-ing anyone means they won't even see this if they don't follow me.)

#FANuary 🧵
🌻 #Gardening is a big helpful community on Mastodon. Among the many who have energized my TLs:
@richrollgardener
@Broadfork
@artistsgarden
@colinpurringtonDon't forget to follow this group @gardening
👥 Loneliness is bad for you. But Mastodon has at least one community builder to fight it:
@vlrny who started the @lonelinesscorps group "for anybody wanting to help battle social isolation. For yourself or others."Her humor: "If you have put on pants today I am already proud of you. If you haven't, I might be even more proud."
-
I'm sliding in here during the last hours of #fanuary to strongly recommend that you follow @yurnidiot for the high-quality critter content. The "find the cats" posts are your new obsession
-
NGL I didn't get it at first, but have come to realize their shitposts are pretty clever and next level. They're so next level that I still don't get half the references (that's on me), but I like the way his mind works.
-
I will try to post more #FANuary peeps if I have time today, but one more before I go: @LoganFive.
I feel like I'm getting very repetitive with the others above, but: you're funny, you're a positive presence in my timeline, and I'm proud to have you in my mutuals. -
I would be remiss if I didn't also give a #FANuary shoutout to @the_etrain.
One thing that I've found on all of these platforms is that every now and then, I'll get followed by someone and instantly think, "Oh, shit. HE followed me?" and feel like I really have to up my game. You were one of those. And I have definitely failed to up my game in any way.But I love the vibe of your posts and always feel extra validated when one of my jokes warrants a boost from such a hilarious poster.
-
I have to make a #FANuary post about at least one person who's not on Beige.party, right? I can't think of a better candidate than @Aphelion.
I called you the poet laureate of my timeline once before, and I meant it. Your verse is haunting, in the best possible way—you share darkness and it lights up Mastodon. I'm proud to have you among my mutuals. -
One of the first new followers I remember picking up after moving to Beige was @photovotary, who I quickly followed back.
Your posts and replies run the gamut from prosaic to somber to deeply funny, but they are a consistently thoughtful presence in my timeline, and I'm glad you're here. #FANuary -
I would be remiss if I didn't #FANuary in the general direction of @TheBreadmonkey. Which isn't hard to do, because his general direction is [gestures to my entire Home timeline]. You lament from time to time that you post too much; maybe you do, but only in the same sense that my favorite Thai food is too spicy. It is! But that's part of the fun. I like your humor, and the unfiltered way you bare your stream of consciousness for us all to share.
I finally came to Beige because of a critical mass of mutuals here, but when I first started contemplating it many months before, you and @Alice were the main draws.
-
My second #FANuary goes out to @Alice.
There are people who have larger followings than me that I am perpetually jealous of. You're one of the few that has always been ahead of me but that I've never felt that way about. The way you put yourself out there is both hilarious and inspiring and set me instantly at ease. A fave from you brightens my day more than ten other boosts. -
My first #FANuary highlight, the founder of the feast: @adhdeanasl.
Your sense of humor is right up my alley, your work makes the world more accessible, and you are a positive influence on the tone and culture here (just look at what you did with the FANuary tag!). I'm proud to have you in my circle on Mastodon. -
In classic Max fashion, I am making all of my #FANuary posts at the last possible moment, having procrastinated the month away.
I held off for the same reason I'm bad about doing things like #FollowFriday: I feel bad about forgetting someone, leaving someone out.
So I'm going to FANuarize (🤮) a few people here, but I am sure to run out of time or things to say or just forget someone. If (when) I do, I'm sorry. I'll try to be better about recommending my mutuals in the future. -
My final Fanuary recommendation for this year goes to @smellsofbikes for all of the slice-of-life photographs they share.
They cycle to such peaceful places! It makes me want to start biking again.
Their food and nature photos are also a welcomed break from the important but heavy topics Mastodon has been discussing lately.

#Fanuary pick: @michelestrider
She's an author who's written a few books, some under a male pen name, maybe because men get paid more. There's one about a pirates, another about mermaids, and others about food and fish. Unfortunately, I haven't had a chance to read any of them, but I hope to someday as soon as I learn how to read. If her toots are any indication, I bet they are excellent.

If you love cute dog photos, go follow @flicka.

Without an algorithm, people who build or support communities are very important. Some of those I have discovered in my interest areas:
#SciFi
@alsopaislaycat is most recently creating a discussion group @thearkchat #TheArkChat
@MirrorAyako leads the #AllStarTrek watch party and bonus activities.📺 🎞️ Movie, TV and Music Watch Parties
At watch parties, you meet people who are interesting, clever and funny. I also attend. 😄 They add value to what you are watching. Enjoyable side conversations are part of the fun.
Examples:
@Taweret for #Monsterdon
@SesameSquirrel and @MatthewTitus88 lead multiple popular parties.
@analgesicsleep for #MusComEnt (Musicals, Comedies, and Entertainment) and a lot more. There are many more leaders that I will recommend later in this thread.
Check out a watch party! Use this evergreen listing for what's playing when:

I so appreciate the writing of @jbcrawford , author of the "Computers Are Bad" blog.(Who among you would disagree with the premise of that blog title!?)
Please enjoy, for example, this humorous essay on Cooler Screens, the company that set out to replace the glass doors of the cooler cases in markets, convenience stores, etc.
> "The retail experience consumers want and deserve," Cooler Screens says on their website. I would admire this turn of phrase if it was intended as a contemptful one. Cooler Screens promise to bring the experience of shopping online, "ease, relevance, and transparency." "Transparency" seems like a poor choice of language when promoting a product that infamously compares poorly to the transparent door it replaces.

#FANuary ain't over yet! Want insightful, timely, scathing notes on #infosec ? Look no further than @GossiTheDog

Today’s recommendation is @billzismyname. I like the fact that he shares a friendly greeting and photo nearly every day. He also is a good person to talk to if you like pop culture and other distracting things.
-
My recommendation for today is @Uncleharvey.
He can find the funny side of just about everything in life, and he appreciates simple joys like a good nap or the latest batch of cookies his wife has baked.
I appreciate his lighthearted timeline and eagerness to make everyone feel welcomed and in on the joke. He’s everyone’s uncle here!
-
I know you guys probably aren't interested in nice cool and amazing people, but just in case (and to throw my hat in the ring a bit for #FANuary), there ain't noone better than @JackTheCat. If you're still hungry for really lovely amazing cool funny people who you should definitely know, I cannot recommend highly enough... @HarriettMB, @amiserabilist, @fkamiah17 and @Binder.
You ever why you're here instead of somewhere else? These are the reasons why. X❤️

Today’s recommendation is @Pawpower.
My spouse and I actually had lunch with her last summer, and she’s the first Mastodon friend I’ve met in person. She was so cool!
Her timeline is filled with stories about the delicious food she makes, life as a DeafBlind person, funny stories about her students, her clever dogs, and so much more.

Inspired by @TheEddieShow. Don't you already follow this poster of unique photos and good mood music among other fun topics?
B.B. creates _a lot_ of heat here, despite it being stormy.

I’m once again behind on my #FANuary recommendations, dang it. Today, I’d like to suggest you check out & follow @purplepadma. Charlotte is brilliant, she’s real, and she’s a kind, funny person. One of my faves here, no lie. Thanks, Charlotte, for being you, and for sharing slices of your life with us.
-
I often boost toots from @georgepenney, an author living in Aotearoa (NZ)
TBH, there's underlying jealousy.
My boss called me a wordsmith - I crudely heated & belted the words others wrote into strong, functional pieces. George does words too, but unlike me, George is an artisanal wordjeweller - creating beauty & delight from the mundanity of daily life & human interactions.
Do yourself a favour, & give George a follow.

I haven’t shared recommendations every day this month, so I’m sharing a second one today.
Lately @llamasoft_ox has been sharing heartwarming photos of their sheep getting treats and enjoying them immensely.
If you like nature, sheep, and/or animals enjoying tasty snacks, this is a peaceful and happy corner of Mastodon to visit.

My follow recommendation for today is @MeanwhileinCanada.
Whether you know a lot, a little, or nothing about Canadian culture, their jokes work on multiple levels.
I love this account’s sense of humour. It kindly pokes fun at everyone and everything….even if it’s a beaver, a Canada Goose, and, on occasion, our southern neighbours, too. 🦫 🪿
