iQiyi has put Fangs of Fortune under the category "Inspirational". I agree. While I can't for the life of me tell what the drama is about - or what it inspires - it weirdly still is...

Thanks for responding. I’m not familiar with the tech side of things but I do notice if it’s really bad. The drama is character driven & while it’s not #myjourneytoyou or #fangsoffortune in terms of atmospherics I thought they did a good job. They gave us the character Princess Wanning though, a true study in psychopathy.
Still if we all liked the same things how could there be discussions? #cdrama

Lol! Called it! _Called it!_* But Zhao Yuanzhou had oodles of costumes, they could have let Neo Hou keep _one_ of them.
(*If you remember my watch of FoF I said I'd be tempted to forget to return some of the costumes if I was Hou Minghao. Now I imagine a group of stern crew members making sure the actors left their get ups on set _every day_.)

I'm travelling and can't watch c-drama tonight, so I thought I'd revisit an old pic or two that didn't make the cut while I was watching earlier...
Hm...
I have no idea why I took this one, no idea why the subtitle/song says what it says, nor any idea what's going on. I mean, Ed Guo is behind the drama, but not even he is this far out, right?

Verdict on Fangs of Fortune. I enjoyed it, Ed Guo has improved, but in the end it's the actors who saves it. To be blunt: my inner editor shrivelled and died around ep3 due to all the things You Don't Do In Storytelling For A Good Reason. Still the overall story is enjoyable enough, and the actors ignores all the odd script stuff to give their all.
And, of course, for brief moments during ~3 episodes you can see Neo Hou with a bare chest, so there's that.

Zhu Zhan is still wearing Shang style embroideries, which would make him 3000+yrs if this was set irl. Now it mosty means 'old as heck!'. Zhou Yichen is wearing "younger" clothes, both in cut and embroidery style. I'm tempted to say Tang, but my fashion history knowledge is mostly vibes, so I'm not a realiable source. They're both allowed to look a bit shrivelled - a very good touch.

I'm at episode 2 of the Grand Final Battle* (and kind of grateful they're only three in total). I'd like to commend Li Lun here for looking good even when thrown to the ground and gasping for air. Other Evil Overlords should take note!

Another thing that gives me mixed feelings is the script. Apparently the last episodes of a CDrama is written by lesser known writers (read: cheaper and less skilled). If that's the case with FofF the script's actually improved a bit, but it's also become blander - I'm having a hard time find details to goof around with.

I _could_ say something about how this reminds me about Star Wars, and how George Lucas was inspired by Akira Kurosawa*, and how Kurosawa in turn drew A Lot from Japanese stage art and storytelling, which in turn was influenced by Chinese etc, etc...
What I _do_ say is:

Hm. Capturing scenes with the mobile is A Pain rn. Almost every setup is a sharp contrast between one _bright_ point and very dark surroundings, making the auto settings on my mobile run wild. I'm trying to show you the glitter on Li Lun's coat. I can't say I'd ever associated glitter with an Evil Overlord before, so it feels like a breath of fresh air, and - as every crafts person can tell you - extremely accurate.

This is Bai Jiu's mom, however, who's spent years as a dry tree (it's complicated) and now has found ways to spruce herself up.

This set is so awesome I took the time to give you a proper screencap (instead of the faster snap with my mobile). It's gorgeous! I love it! If I was insanely rich it would be part of my home!
Yet I can't help asking _why_. Why on earth is the Bureau of Demon Hunting built as a series of small houses inside a large house? If you hear a wooshing sound it's the symbolism sailing straight over my head!

There'd be the problem of _when_ to wear the stuff afterwards, of course, but why give a cluck? It Must Be Mi... His!
