FanCon 2024 and year recap!
It’s been a year since I first started trying to sell my art physically. Yep, a year! It was FanCon 2023 last year that really pushed me to think of ways to take my art from the screen to a real tangible item to be held in one’s hand. I’m slow when it comes to decisions – I don’t like uncertainty and risk and it hurts me in the long run because I miss out on opportunities and that was exactly what happened with FanCon last year. I got the table, the fee was $50 but I had no art to sell and didn’t know a thing about starting. I spent the whole month making things and getting a permit to sell and by the time I answered the email I had been ghosted – they more than likely filled up their artist list. Devastated I reached out to an old mutual friend of a friend who kindly offered to let me share a table with her to experience the maker’s life.
FanCon 2024’s fee was higher this year which intimidated me into wanting to give up on trying. My sister said the event would probably run better than Kinyoobi Con, my first convention solo EVER, so I took the chance. I had already planned it to be my last solo show for the year whether I did well or not but some took it as quitter’s talk.
To my surprise I did really, really well! It was my best show yet!! We had a great location but what surprised me and what I had long been hoping for was that our table really hit all sorts of niche interests out there (EXCEPT MY MAID CAFE… I will have to rethink how to promote this..). People wanted original art. They liked the fan art I had. They bought comics. They liked the home-produced aspect of the wares. Because my assistant had some BL stuff for sale somehow my table became a table where I felt people could be really open (“Is that a bunny boy?! THAT’S HOT”).
It’s been so satisfying to have the art I drew for myself be enjoyed by all. Like, just thank you. Thank you for choosing me. Thank you for supporting me. Thank you for being interested in the characters. Thank you for thinking my guy is hot. Thank you for asking about me. Just thank you thank you thank you!! I don’t think I draw stuff that people generally like so it is an honor to no end that you will give me some of your time to look at my art!!
I don’t plan to change my frequency of vending and I only want to do one or MAYBE two another year but who knows what the future holds for me. But whether or not I keep it up I’m going to keep thinking about how to improve and do better. The rest of my events this year (2) are shared tables and I’m going to try to focus a bit more on this smaller space. I’ll do my best and hope to keep your eyes on me!

在俄国侵略者导弹空袭的威胁中，在全国轮流停电限电的困难中，同人女们还是为了自己的爱，为了自己嗑的CP，为了喜欢的作品摆出了一个个可爱的小摊子
维持秩序的警察们还把警车借给coser们当拍摄道具☺️☺️☺️
杀戮跟踪没想到在乌克兰还挺火的😂
最重要的——各位同人作者和coser们在参展时也没有忘记在前线奋战的军人，那些本该出现在会场参加同人展，现在却在和侵略者战斗的年轻人们，没有他们的牺牲，大家也不可能汇聚在这里。所以许多同人摊主都把所有的利润捐给前线支持抗击侵略，coser们也在会场为军人们募捐，最多的一个在一天内就募捐到了400个止血带的钱
想到我认识的那个在俄军轰炸时在防空洞里写文的乌克兰同人女
即使在战争的阴影中，同人精神不死。
