Go On Singing, But Sign Your Name: Orson Welles, the Unsigned Cathedral, and the Most Seductive Lie in “F for Fake”
Picture the man. He is past sixty, vast, wrapped in a black cape and a wide hat, and he has just spent an hour lying to your face on purpose. He told you at the start that for the next sixty minutes everything would be true, and you believed him, because the voice belongs to Orson Welles and that voice could sell you the deed to a bridge. Then the hour ran out, and in the last seventeen minutes he spun a whole story about a young woman, her grandfather, and twenty-two forged Picassos, walking you through it as documented fact before turning to the camera to admit he had been, in his own phrase, lying his head off. The film is "F for Fake," from 1973. With the trick still warm, Welles plants himself in front of Chartres Cathedral, goes quiet and grave and beautiful, and delivers the line everyone carries away: maybe a man's name doesn't matter all that much. On October 13th, 2023, my first novel will be released. I am excited, but there's more. I didn't just sell the one book. I sold the series. That's the ultimate excitement for me.
I am hard at work on book 4 right now. The first three have already been accepted and I am awaiting final edits on book 3 already. So if you are interested in a Science Fiction story: Rise of the Automated Empire: Final Assembly. 10/13/23.

So far I've only killed one character in my WIP. I need to step up my game. Book 2 still holds the record with well over 22,000 dead. And this one is the war story.
Also, I've added an inline form to my website, as I was informed that popup blockers were blocking the newsletter signup.

It had been a while since I reviewed the notes, and I had moved one of my short stories into the story. Long story short, 9 viewpoint characters seemed a bit much. I moved the short story to book 4, another storyline that only connected slightly to the main narrative gets to be it's own short story, and another character had his viewpoint shifted to other characters in the same scenes. That leaves me with six, and a better feel for the story as a whole.

It's time for my first Mastodon writing update. With the first Red Ice novel back on Submission after rewrites, I started working on Book 3 of Rise of the Automated Empire. This turned out to be a good move. As of Monday, the first book is again on submission, and I was told by the publisher that if he picks up the book, he'll want the three others done so that he can publish them in rapid succession.

#Verdi 's #Falstaff is a total masterpiece. Watching Terfel conducted by Harding on YouTube tonight from 2017. I grew up with the Giulini/Bruson recording, which was fantastic. The orchestral writing is just some of the best; and naturally the ensembles reveal a lifetime of writing for the theater. I always love going back to it. @wendyparciak I do not. I write SF but enjoy also reading Fantasy and some create redneck monster hunter stories (#Falstaff) along side my heavy list of science fiction. I have even dabbled in writing fantasy, although I haven't finished any of those, yet.
