  1. "Money for Nothing" is a song by the British #rock band #DireStraits, the second track on their fifth studio album #BrothersInArms (1985). It was released as the album's second single on 28 June 1985 through #VertigoRecords. The song's lyrics are written from the point of view of two working-class men watching music videos and commenting on what they see. The song features a guest appearance by #Sting, who sings the signature #falsetto introduction.

    #JeanGrae - "Intro" (2008)

For a brief moment there, Jean seemed poised to be crowned queen of the world - or, at least queen of NY's underground #hiphop community. It never really happened, though not for lack of quality: I reckon her Jeanius album recorded w/ producer #9thWonder to be one of best #rap albums of the noughties. The #falsetto disco coo in that magical #Syreeta sample is dreamy, but it's Jean herself who lights this one ON FIRE

"Roll your windows down / And turn the woofers up / New giddy city get that liquor in your tinted cups / Picture me kicking this pretty then remember the words"

    #LutherVandross - "Take You Out" (2001)

I don't always love this man's material, but I'll never fail to give props to his velvet tenor - especially when it's this song. Plus he's improvising with a little #falsetto at the end. For once, #JayZ and I agree: this is late-life Luther greatness.

The keen ears at @blogamf hipped me to #CrammedDiscs’ 2022 release of this lost 1987 album by Congolese-born/Belgian-raised #MauricePotoDoudongo. It's future forward electro-funk, ala #ZazouBiyake - or #Prince, fr christs sake! - but steeped in the rhythms and textures of #CongoleseRumba and #Soukous. Rich, joyful, and really quite beautiful, this one gets me moving and still sounds relevant today.

  8. I’m generally a real pessimistic person.
Here’s a nervous live version of my song “Optimist,” a rehearsal for a live stream I did last summer.

  9. Seems to be a well-known album in some underground scenes, but I just found #Fishmans #LongSeason. And wow, I like it.

It's basically a single 35 minute track. It was described as being "dream like" / #psychedelic which I think fits quite well. The singer, who unfortunately passed away already, uses #Falsetto which adds another unique touch. It's from 1996.

I basically found them via reddit.com/r/fishmans/comments which is an interesting story :)

  10. It's my 50th birthday today. I'm releasing an album of new music: "The False Voice is tunes for concertina and falsetto singer. Melodies set against instrumental drones and varied textures conjure a hopeful spirit and thoughts of the forest and its creatures in the westernmost region of Washington State, USA."

"In a vocal fry register," explains Elemans, "your vocal folds are mostly slack, so they're #thick and #heavy, and they #vibrate at their #lowest #frequencies. And in the #falsetto #register, they're stretched very long and the #tension is very high. And this leads to the #highest frequencies."
