Available now to teachers everywhere and developed in Ontario Canada.
A Fair Vote? Rights, Responsibilities, and Decision-Making in a Democracy is an exciting new resource for Grade 5 Social Studies teachers, which was developed by the Elementary Teachers of Toronto and Fair Vote Canada.
This resource supports Strand B of the Social Studies curriculum on the Role of Government and Responsible Citizenship. The curriculum resource invites students to consider alternatives to our First-Past-the-Post voting system. Consisting of three lessons with accompanying slideshows, it concludes with students holding a mock Citizens' Assembly to determine what changes could be made to our voting system.

@SnowyCA Capitulation Carney strikes again! This guy sure knows how to jettison all those strategic votes from the left.
#Carney is openly handing the next election to the #Conservatives having helped pave way for their authoritarian fascist rule by embracing austerity.
Strategic voting in #Canada is a joke, just like the entire FPTP voting system. Without voting reform, Canada is doomed to follow #Poilievre into facism while continuing to isolate and vilify the left.
Not my Canada, not my Prime Minister.

Now is the time to speak up! Although Justin Trudeau broke his often-repeated promise to Canadians that the 2015 election would be the last under the first-past-the-post system, there is still strong support for the idea – even among those in power. After stepping down as Liberal leader, Trudeau shared that his one regret leading up to the 2025 election was not being able to change the way we elect our governments in this country 1 . Mark Carney has also spoken positively about electoral reform and has shared openness to addressing “those more structural issues in our democracy” 2 .
We are rallying to show that Canadians from across the political spectrum have not forgotten this broken promise, and that now is the time to act. More than ever, we need a strong democracy, with elected officials who reflect the will of the people, and where every citizen’s vote counts equally. We hope that you will join us!
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out, anytime.
Thank you,

I unsubscribed on July 2nd from #cbcgem after watching #CBC air unedited feeds of #Trump’s propaganda as well as highlighting an #Alberta #separatist on #canadaday.
I also don’t appreciate CBC’s decision to withhold all comments on their #YouTube uploads. Comments help hold up-loaders accountable for bad takes.
Much like CBC’s featured disillusioned #Albertan, I too didn’t celebrate Canada Day this year, as the Prime Minister I was forced to strategically vote for is now fast tracking bills I don’t support while simultaneously capitulating to Trump.
Mark Carney is also openly supportive of yet another Liberal, federally forced, destructive bitumen pipeline across Northern BC against our province’s consent and ignoring our first nation’s rejection under the guise of “National Interest”, simply to appease a separatist Premier’s threats and fund Trump’s golden dome. This is not my #Canada, this is not my Prime Minister.

Ignore false claims #ProportionalRepresentation (a term used to refer to systems that have nothing in common other than fitting a very specific mathematical formula) will solve problems.
