University of California employees are our fellow knowledge workers. They have been our classmates in the past. The researchers are our collaborators & co-authors. And some will become our future colleagues here at #ChicoState.
If those who have corporatized the academy are able to break the UC #strike, then administrators around the US will know that they can too. California strikers must win, otherwise the fate of other precarious academic workers elsewhere is in further jeopardy.

Eight years ago today, I went on strike as a member of the Graduate Teaching Fellows Federation. We struck against the University of Oregon. I walked this picket line for 8 days in the rain in early December and we WON 100% of our demands--an absolute total victory. Today, 8 years later, University of California is on strike. UC knows their charges are high and that UC doesn't pay student workers enough to not be at-risk. Disabled ppl tend to be impoverished by ableism anyway so it's even worse. We made a "Benefits Counseling" document to find help you may already qualify for.

Spent a good chunk of today talking to #uaw2865 and #sruuaw grad student workers about the #fairUCnow strike. It’s clear how much they care about their work and want to resume, but are also fed up with UC’s inability to bargain.
I can’t wait to help them in their work when the strike is over.
