How about the UK government stop doing business with US companies that have no intention of ever properly paying taxes against the income they generate in the UK…would that be wild or just common sense?
In 2024 the company, #Palantir paid just £2.1m in UK corporation tax, despite declaring profits of over £25m, giving an effective tax rate of just over 8%, researchers found. The UK corporation tax rate was 25% that year and remains at that level.

@seasiders2 Here we go again: another misleading PR push from the mining lobby, claiming they’re single-handedly funding the nation.
Reality check: global mining giants masterfully dodge taxes via loopholes—shifting profits to tax havens, robbing communities of funds for schools & healthcare. Transfer pricing tricks & inflated fees between affiliates are routine.
Same old extractive playbook: privatize profits, socialize costs, leave environmental wreckage behind.
Meanwhile, corporate lawyers are coaching the industry on battling “resource nationalism” from governments seeking fair revenue.
Time to cut through the spin & demand these corps pay their fair share.#mining #taxjustice #resourcenationalism #corporateaccountability #extractivism #fairtax

@rafa_font Finland shows what real transparency looks like. Public tax records and very high earners paying their fair share builds trust and funds public services everyone relies on. Australia could learn a lot from this instead of secrecy carve outs and endless concessions for the wealthy. Standing ovation indeed.

🚨Every year, we lose $340B to corporate tax cheats. 🤬
Now we have a shot at getting it back: starting TODAY, #UN tax talks could expose megacorps robbing the poor, but leaders must resist #Trump’s bullying! 🤬 Raise your voice before it’s too late!!! ⚠️

The super tax change only affects balances over $3 million—about fairness, not a raid. If a few wealthy investors sell property, that’s not a crisis—it’s an opportunity.
More homes for buyers means fewer locked up in the rental market.

Australia shows how transparency can fight corporate tax abuse. Public country-by-country reporting (CBCR) helped expose profit shifting by multinationals. The world should follow suit and let the sunshine in.

Ethical Consumer magazine have "called a boycott of Amazon over its outrageous tax avoidance since 2012. The list of accusations against Amazon is long, from tax avoidance, offering its services to fossil fuel giants and firing activist workers."

Rachel Reeves says Tories ‘lied about public finances.’ To fix the £22bn hole, we need to tax capital gains, passive income, the rich, and highly profitable companies way more. #FiscalReform #TaxFairness #WealthGap #FairTax #EconomicJustice #WealthTax https://buff.ly/3StiSso

Stop tax breaks for Amazon and other huge companies - their UK division made £222m profit last year and paid £0 in corporation tax. Yet small and medium businesses pay their fair share. https://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/stop-tax-breaks-for-amazon-and-other-huge-corporations #FairTax

Fairer taxes can help us build a brighter future.
A future where inequality is in retreat; where we’re tackling environmental breakdown; where our public services are properly funded to serve us well and our democracy is thriving. I’ve written more on our vision for a fairer tax system and why it matters here:
-
Starmer attends Murdoch's garden party on Thursday, and then we get this announcement today. No income tax rise for top earners. Ordinary taxpayers can continue to carry the greater share of the tax burden. Labour is dead.
-
2% tax on assets above 10m (only 350 families affected!) could raise 22bn a year. Tax the wealthy, they can afford it!

Seems a normal (albeit slightly smug) article until we get to: “the UK regulatory environment for businesses far exceeds what we have to deal with in the US.”
He then lists the rights we have here with the clear implication they are barriers to business. Rights hard won over decades before which we went up chimneys, down mines or into workhouses.
“I’m glad I’m running my small business in the US and not here”
That makes 2 of us!

CW: Some in GOP oppose regressive tax bill
Key #Republicans oppose #House #GOP bill to abolish #tax code https://thehill.com/policy/finance/3832344-key-republicans-oppose-house-gop-bill-to-abolish-tax-code/ "A study commissioned by the admin. of former President George W. Bush, which also considered the sales tax reform, found that people making between $15,000 and $200,000 a year would see their taxes increase under the plan, while people making more than $200,000 a year would see their share of the national tax burden decrease by 7.6 percentage points." #FairTax #regressive

"five terrible tax breaks" used by just 70,000 individuals that deprive the public realm of £4bn'
It's not just tax avoidance, the whole system stinks and privileges the wealthy to avoid their fair share of tax legally. Toynbee thinks Labour will make sweeping changes. I can't see that under Starmer n Co. This country is not much better than a failed state apart from collecting taxes from PAYE earners. #effingAngry #TaxWealth #FairTax

The #FairTax plan specifically doesn’t require any sort of itemized proof of spending or application for rebates.
In fact, they emphasize that the idea is to get people this money before they actually pay the tax, and they refer to the payment as a prebate to highlight that.
-
FWIW, I happened to copy this quote for someone else and then saw this reply and figured I’d share it here too.
“In contrast, the #FairTax dramatically improves economic growth and wage rates for all, but especially for lower-income families and individuals. In addition to receiving the monthly FairTax prebate, these taxpayers are freed from regressive payroll taxes, the federal income tax, and the compliance burdens associated with each. They pay no more business taxes hidden in the price of goods and services, and used goods are tax free.”

CW: USPol
Your reminder that the so-called #FairTax would require a minimum of 23% national sales tax to make up for the entirety of our tax code it will replace.
Also, no company is going to cut product costs after. There is no benefit to them under capitalism. With the shift to a national sales tax comes an opportunity to increase profit. So all costs will go up, overwhelmingly harming those with lower income.
The "Fair Tax" is regressive tax.

For some people, more-than-enough is just not enough. I know they say charity begins at home, but this looks ridiculous 😂
