📱 FAIRPHONE 6+ out now in 🇪🇺 Europe & USA 🇺🇸

Fairphone has released a new version of their Fairphone featuring an upgraded Snapdragon 7s Gen 4 and 12 GB RAM. The device is newly available in 🟦 COBALT BLUE as well as the previously available ⬛️ horizon black and 🟩 forest green. On the software side, the FP6+ comes with its own new gallery app (which will soon become available for FP6 users, too) out of the box. All other specs remain identical to The Fairphone (Gen. 6). The Fairphone 6+ costs € 649 resp. $ 649.

For the first time ever, the company offers their new device both in their European online shop at https://www.fairphone.com/the-fairphone-gen-6-plus as well as their ALL-NEW 🇺🇸 US SHOP at https://us.fairphone.com Apart from the Fairphone 6+, the US shop also offers their audio products (Fairbuds XL and Fairbuds). The company declares carriers T-Mobile and AT&T as supported while Verizon as NOT supported (note the detailed "Check carrier compatibility" information in the shop).

Buyers in the US will qualify for the same extended warranties that Fairphone has offered to customers in their European home market for some years (in the USA these even come without registration). Warranty and out-of-warranty repairs will be done in a service center based in the USA.

The 2025 Fairphone (Gen. 6) remains available in the European shop, but will not be offered in the US shop.

I tried the #Fairbuds from #Fairphone, but unfortunately I’ll be returning them. The main reasons:

1. The battery status in the app is unreliable and slow to update. I got about four hours with noise cancelling, enough for normal use, but calls likely reduce that considerably, and I sometimes have long calls with my family.
2. I couldn’t easily connect them to my Linux ThinkPad, whereas my Anker headphones and earbuds connect without problems.
3. The touch controls are limited and cannot be customized. I often listen to German podcasts while learning, so going back a few seconds to hear something again matters to me.

The sound quality and call microphone were good enough, though.

My Anker Liberty 4 NC has lost over two-thirds of its original battery life after two years and nine months, dropping from 6+ hours to under two. I still like its call quality, noise cancelling and connectivity, but unfortunately it does not support the #RightToRepair.

I wish I could support @Fairphone, but I cannot justify spending €99 on a product with these problems. Perhaps Fairphone could publish the app’s source code so enthusiasts could help fix issues such as unreliable battery telemetry.

I’m otherwise a happy Fairphone 5 customer and have used mine for almost a year and a half.

the headband base of my fairbuds xl (2023 model) broke again. I have lost count of how often this has happened, I think it's been 4 times now. fairphone has always sent me a replacement, but soon I'll be out of the 2-year warranty period and I'd hate to pay 20€ every few months for my headphones.

and yes, it's very nice that those things can be repaired, but it would be even nicer if that would not be needed every half year.

If you have #fairbuds (the small ones), you should definitely use https://jurf.github.io/fairbuds/ to finally get the awesome sound quality, that the hardware can actually provide. I can recommend the custom EQ preset from soundguys. It's mindblowing compared to the default ones from #fairphone

Man kann 250€ für #Sony-In-Ear-Kopfhörer ausgeben, die weder brauchbaren Support bekommen noch reparierbar sind – oder für 23€ die billigsten von #Xiaomi, die nicht schlechter klingen und auch ansonsten einen soliden Job machen, inkl. verhältnismäßig langer Laufzeit.

Aber Optimum: Reparierbare Kopfhörer kaufen, wie die Fairbuds. Vollkommen vergessen, dass die existieren. 🫠

Und leider verliere ich die scheiß In-Ear-Teile eher, als dass ich irgendwann den Akku tauschen muss. :ugly: 🙈
