Today, #Bilbao 🇪🇸 started operating its new #Cercanías line C-5 in the section between #Karrantza and #Aranguren, which until yesterday had been served only by regional trains (metre-gauge line Bilbao–Santander).

On 29 March, the #Mals/Malles 🇮🇹 - #Meran/Merano railway line reopened for passenger service after five months of construction works. However, the electrification works are not yet finished and DMUs are still in operation.
Due to technical issues, currently only a two-hourly service is provided, an most of the trains run only between Lasa/Laas and #Merano/Meran.

The changes also include the withdrawal of the #Barcelona <> #Salamanca 632-633 train portion. Therefore, Alvia 621-622 will no longer be split in Miranda and run with a single Series 130 set for the entire journey.
However, a new IC 632-633 #Zaragoza 🇪🇸 <> Salamanca will be introduced with two completely new train paths departing 5h earlier from Salamanca/later from Zaragoza.
It will be operated with a Series 121 train set instead (no Elige Confort seats). (2/2)

The new timetables reflecting the changes on the #Miño line from 7 April have been published and particularly affect the Alvia 621-622, the popular "Camino de Santiago" 🇪🇸 service.
It will be diverted via #Santiago, skipping the stops at Redondela & Guillarei and serving Pontevedra, Vilagarcía & Santiago instead. Journey time: +5 to 15min.
621-622 now runs daily #Barcelona <> #Vigo, losing the alternating train path 625-626 from/to A Coruña 4x/week. (1/2)

Renfe doubles the regional train pairs between #Vigo 🇪🇸 and #Ponferrada - which means that now there are two.
However, the new Regional Express service 12614-12608 will we be replaced by bus for one year between Vigo and Guillarei - as this affects the Celta service to Porto.
It will also replace the Alvia 621-625 Vigo <> #Barcelona, which will be diverted via Santiago de Compostela during that period.

Aber auch Köln reicht für die einzige internationale Direktverbindung nach Oostende. Diesen Sommer scheint es zwar auch einen (neuen?) Kust Express nach #Arlon zu geben, der schafft es aber auch nur *fast* bis nach Luxembourg. Bei der Hinfahrt eher auch nur was für Frühaufstehende.

Yesterday, the non-electrified single-track line between #Tours 🇫🇷 and #Loches reopened for passenger service after seven months of engineering works, including the installation of a new bridge deck on the Viaduc d’Esvres-sur-Indre. Journey times have been reduced by 3-5 minutes.

Die wohl am wenigsten bediente TER-Relation in der ehemaligen Region #RhôneAlpes zwischen #BourgEnBresse und #Oyonnax (ab Brion weiter auf der 2018 eingekürzten Ligne des Hirondelles) erhält dann werktags 5 statt bisher 3 Zugpaare und am Wochenende 3 statt bisher nur 1.

Until now, direct regional services ran only during the summer period ('Treni del Mare'). The train departs from Milano C.le 20 min later than the last direct IC service of the day with a journey time ~30 min longer.

From tomorrow, the region of #Liguria 🇮🇹 will provide an half-hourly service for stopping trains between #SestriLevante and #Savona via #Genova also on weekends nearly throughout the day.

Von 27. Juli bis 17. August 2026 werden wegen Bauarbeiten im Bahnhof La Plaine, TGV-Züge zwischen #Genève 🇨🇭 und #Paris 🇫🇷 über das #Jura umgeleitet und fahren dabei über die Schleife Denges - Bussigny nahe Lausanne, die sonst nur am Tagesrand vom IR 57 befahren wird.
In Hafas sind schon einzelne Umleitungstrassen zu finden, teils mit Halt in Dijon, teils auch nonstop. Gespannt bin ich, ob es für den TGV Genève/Lausanne<>Marseille eine Umleitung geben wird (z.B. über Annemasse).

On 1st March the direct #Intercity service 716-715 between #Bari 🇮🇹 and #Napoli will be reinstated after eight months. It was introduced in 2023, but was withdrawn in June 2025 due to construction works.
With the opening of the new double-track section between Maddaloni Inferiore and Dugenta, the two cities are once again directly connected.

And last and most: The Ministry of Infrastructure has announced trains are going to reach the west Podlachian town of Łomża, deprived of passenger rail since 1993, this June! …However, the initial offer will not include the promised direct connections to Warsaw. The first #PKPIC route to connect Łomża will run Białystok-Łapy-Łomża (direction change)-Ostrołęka-Szczytno-Olsztyn, instead. There will be 2 pairs a day of those, and also 4 pairs of Polregio trains to Białystok. All these trains will use a new curve in the direction of Białystok being constructed at Śniadowo. The exact timetables are still being constructed and will be announced, well, when PKP PLK announces timetable changes.
The cited reason for the lack of direct connections to Warsaw is twofold: One, PKP IC is still short on Diesel rolling stock, pending the delivery of Newag Impuls EDMUs - the Białystok-Łomża-Olsztyn trains are to be run with ex-Dutch DM90 units rented from SKPL Cargo (which are to be painted in the livery used on PKP IC's Flirt and Dart EMUs as a sign of commitment to long-term usage). Second, capacity is reduced between Ostrołęka and Tłuszcz, a major junction north-east of Warsaw, due to engineering works. The old Biebrza (a Warsaw-Gdynia via Czeremcha, Białystok, Ełk direct train, now split into two in Białystok) may be gone, but you can still find direct long way around ICs in Poland :P - here you can see the Lubomirski, 1044 km in just over 11 hrs from Kraków to Szczecin via Zawiercie (this detour due to engineering works), the Central Trunk Line, Warsaw and the Tricity
