Endlich ist es soweit: am 11. Oktober startet nach 586 Tagen wieder der direkte Verkehr zwischen #Wien Hbf 🇦🇹 und #Bratislava hl.st. 🇸🇰 über #Marchegg und #DevinskaNováVes.
Zum Einsatz kommen Vectrons mit klimatisierten ZSSK- und ÖBB-Wagen. Die Fahrzeit wird nur mehr 56 Minuten benötigen statt vorher 1h07 im Dieselbetrieb.

After more than two years of construction works the #Huelva 🇪🇸 - #Zafra line reopened for passenger transport on 15 September 2025.
Unfortunately the new timetable doesn't include any additional services compared to before the closure, only nine trains per week and direction are now operating on the line. However travel times have been reduced by around 20 minutes thanks to the improved infrastructure.

Announced a long time ago, now it seems to be becoming serious: the Series 490 broad-gauge Pendolinos (ex-#Alaris) may enter service in September on the #Zaragoza 🇪🇸 - #Pamplona line.
They are expected to replace the Civia EMUs currently used for Media Distancia services on this line.
In 2014 they were withdrawn from service due to technical problems. Some pictures of a modernised train set were already published last year.

On 2 September #Trenord has introduced the new suburban line S31 between #Brescia 🇮🇹 and #Iseo next to the Lake Iseo, increasing the service from 3 to 4 trains per 2h.
And on 8 September the section #Manzone - #Edolo will reopen after 7 months of closure. Thanks to the S31 line, regional trains now run hourly fast services Brescia <> Iseo (where every 2nd train stopped at all stations before).

As press articles show, HŽ 7023 DMUs are used for the new international services between #Zabok 🇭🇷 and #Rogatec 🇸🇮 representing as far as I know their first use in regular service on Slovenian territory.
The Celje 🇸🇮 - Đurmanec 🇭🇷 services seem to continue operating with SŽ 813 Fiat DMUs.

High-speed rail has arrived in 🇨🇿. Yesterday, for the first time, a regular train service reached a speed of 200 km/h in Czechia.
The new train pair IC 591-590 runs between #Praha hl.n. and #ČeskéBudějovice, reaching 200 km/h on the sections Votice - Sudoměřice u Tábora and Soběslav - Doubí. It is classified as Intercity (not Supercity) as no reservation is required. However, SC 500 from Ostrava continues directly as IC 591.

Also interesting: Portugal would like to use the ex-Arco coaches for the #Celta service between #Porto 🇵🇹 and #Vigo 🇪🇸 as well. However, this would require the dual-voltage version of the Renfe 252 locos.

From tomorrow, 31 August, the former Renfe #Arco coaches will be used for the first time on #Intercidades services between #Lisboa 🇵🇹 and #Porto.
Until now, the coaches have only been used for interregional trains. The first train pair will be IC 523-528.

From Monday, 1 September, two daily regional train pairs (SŽ 510) will run between #Ljubljana 🇸🇮 - #Zagreb 🇭🇷 via #Dobova after a long period during which only long-distance trains crossed the border.
The train pairs 7701-7700 and 7703-7702 will serve all stations between Ljubljana and Dobova and will continue from/to Zagreb with an intermediate stop only at Zaprešić.

The old ETR 460/485 #Frecciabianca Pendolinos are approaching the end of its operation: From 25 August another train pair, the FB 8606-8623 between #Torino 🇮🇹 - #Genova - #Roma, will be changed to a Frecciarossa service using an ETR600.
Mixed reactions as the fares will increase but the journey time remains unchanged.

From 17 August a transfer is needed on the Tren #Celta #Vigo 🇪🇸 <> #Porto 🇵🇹:
The delivery of new train sets will be delayed until 2026. Currently, the service is operated with old Series 592 DMUs due to the lack of multi-system train sets.
Since many of them have already reached their mileage limits, the service needs to be split in Viana do Castelo. Instead, a UTE 2240 EMU will run on the section from/to Porto.

Für alle, die ein bisschen genauer auf die Streckenkilometer achten: Ab heute wird auf der Strecke #Praha 🇨🇿 - #LysaNadLabem erstmals der neue drei km lange begradigte Abschnitt zwischen #Mstětic und #Čelákovice befahren.
Zunächst nur auf einem Gleis - ab 1. September startet dann der zweigleisige Betrieb. Auf dem neuen Abschnitt sind nun 140 km/h statt bisher nur 100 km/h möglich.

After a ten-months closure, the metre-gauge line #Genova 🇮🇹 - #Casella was partially reopened on 6 July 2025 with two train pairs on weekends in the section between Campi and Casella in addition to the current rail replacement service by buses.
On 12 July the service was increased to four train pairs on Saturdays and Sundays running until 28 September. Buses between Genova P. Manin and Campi connect to the trains.

Once again, the #TreniDelMare to the seaside in 🇮🇹 are running. These are regional train services on weekends that cover exceptionally long distances without needing a reservation, like #Bergamo - #Ventimiglia or #Como - #LaSpezia.
New this year: the region #EmiliaRomagna provides direct regional services between #Milano and #Rimini via #Ravenna. Travel time Milano -Ravenna is about 4h.

While two through services from #Sevilla Santa Justa 🇪🇸 to #Figueres Vilafant have already been introduced over the past few months (as shown in the previous posts), finally a first through service will run from 21 July in the opposite direction.
Once again, two extisting AVEs will be merged. Could be an interesting option to avoid a transfer at the crowded Barcelona Sants station. However, more likely at Girona, as broad gauge trains stop at the same station there.

Not only #NovaGorica 🇸🇮 /#Gorizia 🇮🇹 (as mentioned here: https://mastodon.social/@claudsch/114213334514916224) but also the second location for the European Capital of #Culture 2025 #Chemnitz 🇩🇪 has received additional train services this summer.
Since early May, an additional #Intercity train pair has been operating between #Berlin and #Chemnitz running on weekends until mid-September. Unlike the existing IC services, this train pair runs non-stop between Berlin and Chemnitz. A Twindexx train set is used.

Today a new direct #Eurocity service 155-156 between #Zürich 🇨🇭 and #Pisa 🇮🇹 was introduced running daily in the summer ☀️ period. Until now the train pair was extended only on weekends to #SestriLevante. However departure from Zürich HB now is at 06:33 instead of 10:33.
Also new: after the end of the summer period in September the train pair will continue to run from/to Sestri Levante daily instead of only on weekends.

On 15 June 2025 the branch line #JeleniaGóra 🇵🇱 - #Mysłakowice - #Karpacz in #Silesia will be reopened for passenger transport after 25 years of closure.

Now it's official: the #Huesca 🇪🇸 - #Canfranc railway line will be reopened on 9 June 2025.
The number of train services remains unchanged. Two train pairs will run from/to Canfranc as before the closure. However the travel times will be much shorter than before. The full journey time between #Zaragoza and Canfranc will be reduced by 30 min from ~3h50 to ~3h20.

From 28 June to 24 August #Lyria will offer again its seasonal TGV service from #Lausanne 🇨🇭to #Marseille 🇫🇷 (only to #Genève in the other direction).
And good news for 2026: From next year the train pair will run additionally from April to October on Thursdays to Mondays (and daily in the summer period as before).

In the #summer ☀️ period from 14 July to 10 August 2025 two direct train pairs will be provided between #Malmö 🇸🇪 and #Oslo 🇳🇴 via #Halden and #Göteborg. Two existing train pairs Oslo <> Göteborg will be extended.
Unlike the Stockholm <> Oslo services a reservation is not required. The new connections are also intended for international travellers from/to #København 🇩🇰 and #Hamburg 🇩🇪.

Good news for the #Madrid 🇪🇸 - #Badajoz line: from 9 June a 3rd #Alvia train pair will be introduced running 6x per week. For the first time the avoider line in #Mérida will be used. #Streckensammler
Slight improvements also for 🇵🇹 🇪🇸 journeys: the evening train Badajoz - Madrid will run 5 min later providing a little more transfer time. On Saturdays a new departure from Badajoz at 18:10 will be introduced allowing a quite safe transfer from 🇵🇹.

The popular #Split 🇭🇷 line will be served by additional regional trains:
On 7 April HŽPP has introduced a new train pair between Split and #Perković running on workdays in the afternoon and filling a gap of five hours.
And from 12 May another two train pairs will be added between Split and #KaštelStari.
