After more than two years of construction works the #Huelva 🇪🇸 - #Zafra line reopened for passenger transport on 15 September 2025.
Unfortunately the new timetable doesn't include any additional services compared to before the closure, only nine trains per week and direction are now operating on the line. However travel times have been reduced by around 20 minutes thanks to the improved infrastructure.
Announced a long time ago, now it seems to be becoming serious: the Series 490 broad-gauge Pendolinos (ex-#Alaris) may enter service in September on the #Zaragoza 🇪🇸 - #Pamplona line.
They are expected to replace the Civia EMUs currently used for Media Distancia services on this line.
In 2014 they were withdrawn from service due to technical problems. Some pictures of a modernised train set were already published last year.

On 2 September #Trenord has introduced the new suburban line S31 between #Brescia 🇮🇹 and #Iseo next to the Lake Iseo, increasing the service from 3 to 4 trains per 2h.
And on 8 September the section #Manzone - #Edolo will reopen after 7 months of closure. Thanks to the S31 line, regional trains now run hourly fast services Brescia <> Iseo (where every 2nd train stopped at all stations before).

As press articles show, HŽ 7023 DMUs are used for the new international services between #Zabok 🇭🇷 and #Rogatec 🇸🇮 representing as far as I know their first use in regular service on Slovenian territory.

High-speed rail has arrived in 🇨🇿. Yesterday, for the first time, a regular train service reached a speed of 200 km/h in Czechia.
The new train pair IC 591-590 runs between #Praha hl.n. and #ČeskéBudějovice, reaching 200 km/h on the sections Votice - Sudoměřice u Tábora and Soběslav - Doubí. It is classified as Intercity (not Supercity) as no reservation is required. However, SC 500 from Ostrava continues directly as IC 591.

From tomorrow, 31 August, the former Renfe #Arco coaches will be used for the first time on #Intercidades services between #Lisboa 🇵🇹 and #Porto.
Until now, the coaches have only been used for interregional trains. The first train pair will be IC 523-528.

From Monday, 1 September, two daily regional train pairs (SŽ 510) will run between #Ljubljana 🇸🇮 - #Zagreb 🇭🇷 via #Dobova after a long period during which only long-distance trains crossed the border.
The train pairs 7701-7700 and 7703-7702 will serve all stations between Ljubljana and Dobova and will continue from/to Zagreb with an intermediate stop only at Zaprešić.

The old ETR 460/485 #Frecciabianca Pendolinos are approaching the end of its operation: From 25 August another train pair, the FB 8606-8623 between #Torino 🇮🇹 - #Genova - #Roma, will be changed to a Frecciarossa service using an ETR600.
Mixed reactions as the fares will increase but the journey time remains unchanged.
From 17 August a transfer is needed on the Tren #Celta #Vigo 🇪🇸 <> #Porto 🇵🇹:
The delivery of new train sets will be delayed until 2026. Currently, the service is operated with old Series 592 DMUs due to the lack of multi-system train sets.
Since many of them have already reached their mileage limits, the service needs to be split in Viana do Castelo. Instead, a UTE 2240 EMU will run on the section from/to Porto.

Für alle, die ein bisschen genauer auf die Streckenkilometer achten: Ab heute wird auf der Strecke #Praha 🇨🇿 - #LysaNadLabem erstmals der neue drei km lange begradigte Abschnitt zwischen #Mstětic und #Čelákovice befahren.
Zunächst nur auf einem Gleis - ab 1. September startet dann der zweigleisige Betrieb. Auf dem neuen Abschnitt sind nun 140 km/h statt bisher nur 100 km/h möglich.

After a ten-months closure, the metre-gauge line #Genova 🇮🇹 - #Casella was partially reopened on 6 July 2025 with two train pairs on weekends in the section between Campi and Casella in addition to the current rail replacement service by buses.
On 12 July the service was increased to four train pairs on Saturdays and Sundays running until 28 September. Buses between Genova P. Manin and Campi connect to the trains.

Once again, the #TreniDelMare to the seaside in 🇮🇹 are running. These are regional train services on weekends that cover exceptionally long distances without needing a reservation, like #Bergamo - #Ventimiglia or #Como - #LaSpezia.
New this year: the region #EmiliaRomagna provides direct regional services between #Milano and #Rimini via #Ravenna. Travel time Milano -Ravenna is about 4h.

While two through services from #Sevilla Santa Justa 🇪🇸 to #Figueres Vilafant have already been introduced over the past few months (as shown in the previous posts), finally a first through service will run from 21 July in the opposite direction.
Once again, two extisting AVEs will be merged. Could be an interesting option to avoid a transfer at the crowded Barcelona Sants station. However, more likely at Girona, as broad gauge trains stop at the same station there.

Also new: after the end of the summer period in September the train pair will continue to run from/to Sestri Levante daily instead of only on weekends.

On 15 June 2025 the branch line #JeleniaGóra 🇵🇱 - #Mysłakowice - #Karpacz in #Silesia will be reopened for passenger transport after 25 years of closure.

Now it's official: the #Huesca 🇪🇸 - #Canfranc railway line will be reopened on 9 June 2025.
The number of train services remains unchanged. Two train pairs will run from/to Canfranc as before the closure. However the travel times will be much shorter than before. The full journey time between #Zaragoza and Canfranc will be reduced by 30 min from ~3h50 to ~3h20.

From 28 June to 24 August #Lyria will offer again its seasonal TGV service from #Lausanne 🇨🇭to #Marseille 🇫🇷 (only to #Genève in the other direction).
And good news for 2026: From next year the train pair will run additionally from April to October on Thursdays to Mondays (and daily in the summer period as before).
In the #summer ☀️ period from 14 July to 10 August 2025 two direct train pairs will be provided between #Malmö 🇸🇪 and #Oslo 🇳🇴 via #Halden and #Göteborg. Two existing train pairs Oslo <> Göteborg will be extended.

The new train pair will allow a new last evening departure from Atocha at 18:09 to Badajoz daily except Saturdays and a new first morning departure from Badajoz at 6:36 on Mondays to Fridays.
It will run via #Plasencia with a turn-back - the station will be served again by a long-distance train after a very long time.

Thanks to #Romania's full Schengen accession, the number of train services between #Kötegyán 🇭🇺 and #Salonta 🇷🇴 has been significantly increased from 12 May 2025. Instead of only two now seven daily international train pairs are operated, most of them through services from/to #Békéscsaba.
Moreover, the new timetable shows much shorter stops in Kötegyán, now 5-10 min rather than 20-30 min before due to the border controls.

Oha. Nach der Linie C3 in Bilbao, verkehrt seit heute nun auch die C3 in #Valencia in einem symmetrischen Halbstundentakt (am WE alle 60 Min), wenn auch wegen Bauarbeiten nur im kurzen Abschnitt Valencia Font de Sant Lluís <> #Aldaia. Bahnt sich da etwa langsam ein Paradigmenwechsel in 🇪🇸 an? 😮

Now it seems to be fixed: the reopening of the #Luchon 🇫🇷 railway line (branch line of the Toulouse-Bayonne line) is scheduled for 22 June 2025, ten years after its suspension.
The new timetable shows 6 daily train pairs, partly through services from/to #Toulouse. That's not a lot, however before the closure only 2 daily train pairs were running on the line including the former #Lunéa Paris<>Luchon night train portion.

So. @wrzlbrnft hat mich ja mit seinem #LGVkursbuch dazu motiviert einen Fahrplan für die spanischen LAV-Strecken zu erstellen. Dort fahren ja eigentlich kaum Züge wie es heißt, aber wenn man sie dann alle in eine Tabelle bringen muss, ist es doch nicht so wenig Arbeit.
Irgendwann ist dann mal der Punkt da, wo man merkt, es geht nicht fehlerfrei und die Tabelle muss raus.

On 23 April a 16 km broad-gauge section will be reactivated for passenger transport: the three Media Distancia train pairs between #Algeciras 🇪🇸 and #Antequera Santa Ana will be extended to the inner-city of Antequera.
However, not to "Antequera Ciudad" (the former broad-gauge station), but to the new station "Antequera AV" that was opened two years ago and got recently new platforms for broad gauge tracks.

Noch rechtzeig vor dem Saisonstart wurde der Fahrplan des #Karawankensprinter zwischen #Villach 🇦🇹 und #Jesenice 🇸🇮 so angepasst, dass je nach Wochentag in Jesenice ein Anschlusszug nach #NovaGorica 🇸🇮 erreicht wird. Statt bisher erst um 9:09 kommt der Radsprinter nun bereits um 8:04 (Sa-So) bzw. 8:30 (Mo-Fr) in Jesenice an.
Damit hat Villach zu Ostern und in der Sommersaison nun morgens eine abgestimmte Umsteigeverbindung ins #Sočatal und in die diesjährige #Kulturhauptstadt.
🚌 TüBus: Weitere Kürzungen ab Dezember beschlossen
Der TüBus-Aufsichtsrat hat die 2. Stufe der Sparmaßnahmen bestätigt. Ziel: nochmal 1 Mio. € jährlich einsparen.
Ab Mitte Dezember gelten u.a.:

On 29 June 2025 a daily hourly timetable will be launched for the intercity-like TER services between #Marseille 🇫🇷 and #Nice via #Toulon, and #Cannes.
The operation will be adopted by Transdev, the winner of the tendering process. Thus, the current loco-hauled Corail compositions will be replaced by new Alstom Omneo train sets. However, not all sets are delivered on time and some leased SNCF sets will be used.

Oh 😮 While there are many articles about new Avlo services in 2025, an interesting improvement gets only a little attention: From 15 Dec a 2nd long distance train will run through Europe's only semi-desert #Tabernas.
A new daily #Alvia train pair will operate between #Madrid 🇪🇸 and #Almería, but via #Granada instead of Linares-Baeza. For the first time a gauge-changing train will reach Almería using the Cambiador at Granada.
On 19 December the announced Ouigo Train Classique services between #Paris 🇫🇷 and #Bruxelles 🇧🇪 will be launched.
The trains will run 3x daily per direction and stop at #Creil, #Aulnoye-Aymeries and #Mons (reservation compulsory) using the conventional lines. Travel time is approx. 3 hours (Eurostar is ~1h20).

1️⃣ Norwegen: Längerfristiger Ausfall der Nachtzüge zwischen Trondheim und Bodø wegen Lokmangels
2️⃣ Ukraine: Neuer Nachtzug von Kyjiw nach Budapest
In 2025 the departures of the EC services from #København H. 🇩🇰 to #Hamburg Hbf 🇩🇪 will be shifted by one hour to achieve a more stable timetable.
In addition the seasonal train pair EC 1197-1190 will run in 2025 from April to the beginning of November instead of only June to August in 2024.

Es ist wieder die Zeit des Jahres, wo ich mir Gedanken mache, welche Änderungen in Sachen #Nachtzug zum Fahrplanwechsel im Dezember anstehen. Dieses Mal scheint es eher wenige neue Verbindungen zu geben. Wenn jemand einen Tipp hat, gerne her damit!
In December 2024 a new daily #IC train pair will be introduced between #Lyon 🇫🇷 and #Nancy. For the first time since 2018 a long distance train will run again on the line between #Toul and #Dijon via #Neufchâteau and #Culmont-Chalindrey.
The timetable of the new Intercités trains no. 4200 and 4302 is already published. Reservation is possible, but not compulsory.
On 7 January 2025 the branch line #Cuneo 🇮🇹 - #Saluzzo - #Savigliano will be reopened for passenger traffic. The operator will be - 😮 - Arenaways.
Arenaways was the first private operator in Italy and ran train services between #Milano and #Torino from 2010. However, Arenaways was not allowed to serve intermediate stops and went bankrupt in 2011.
