On 3 Dec a new bus line was introduced between Ax-les-Thermes 🇫🇷 and #Andorra 🇦🇩. The bus runs 2x/day in both directions and stops at the railway stations of #AxLesThermes and L'Hospitalet-près-l'Andorre with useful timings for the night train from/to Paris.
Ski resorts along the line are also served. But note: one way ticket from L'Hospitalet to Andorra is 24 € (~40 km).

On 29 October 2024 an hourly #Intercity service was introduced on workdays between #Dublin Connolly 🇮🇪 and #Belfast Grand Central 🇬🇧. The (quite symmetric) timetable now consists of 15 instead of 8 #Enterprise trains per direction on Mondays to Saturdays.
A two-hourly service remains on Sundays, however with extended operation times.

From 1 October 2024 a new #Avant service will run between #Barcelona 🇪🇸 and #Tortosa via Camp de Tarragona (LAV). Tortosa will be served by a high speed train for the first time.
The introduction coincides with the total closure of the broad gauge line section Sant Vicenç de Calders - Tarragona until March 2025. However, the new Avant doesn't seem to be a temporary service.

From 16 September the only #Intercity service from #Madrid 🇪🇸 to #Algeciras will run with a significantly modified timetable:
Departure from Madrid is already at 7:38 in the morning instead of 15:14 in the afternoon. The return journey (departure from Algeciras at 14:58) remains unchanged. As a result the train set will no longer be parked in Algeciras overnight.

Mit dem heutigen Tag beginnt ein fast zweimonatiges Umleitungsprogramm für den EC 163/164 #Transalpin zwischen #Zürich HB 🇨🇭 und #Graz Hbf 🇦🇹.
In den nächsten 50 Tagen verkehrt das Zugpaar an keinem einzigen Tag ohne Abweichung von der Stammroute und das in verschiedenen Variationen. Somit ergeben sich neue Ausblicke für den SBB #Panoramawagen. Ein 🧵 (1/5)

This means btw, the Alvia service Madrid <> #Huelva - the only passenger train using the avoider line in Sevilla - now runs daily (cc: #Streckensammler). The Intercity train pair stops and changes its direction at Sevilla Santa Justa as in the past.

Finally the new Alvia service between #Avilés 🇪🇸 and #Madrid is put into service on 22 July 2024 running daily except Sat. It is the first time that the section between Avilés and Villabona de Asturias is served by a long-distance train (currently Cercanías only).
It will be operated with a Series 130 train set (Patito).

Since there are often questions about which #Feve lines are currently operated by train or by bus:
After two months of closure since 8 July 2024 trains run again on the #Léon 🇪🇸 - #Guardo metre-gauge line between Asunción Universidad and Guardo.

Following Roma - Pescara in January, on 1 July 2024 another fast regional service using a "Pop" train set is introduced between #Bari 🇮🇹 and #Potenza via #GioaDelColle and #Metaponto.

Ab 6. Juli gibt es offenbar zum ersten Mal seit zehn Monaten wieder Personenverkehr durch den Mont-Cenis-Tunnel zwischen #Bardonecchia 🇮🇹 und #Modane 🇫🇷. Das #TGV-Zugpaar verkehrt dann zwischen #Milano und Modane.
Der vom Erdrutsch betroffene Abschnitt zwischen Modane und St-Michel-Valloire bleibt aber bis in den Herbst gesperrt (Ersatz mit Bussen).
Die TGV-Verlängerung bleibt aber nur bis Ende August, dann werden Bauarbeiten im Tunnel vorgezogen (1/2).

Das Zugpaar verkehrt an Sonn- und Feiertagen von 16. Juni* bis 1. September, startet morgens in Foligno und fährt abends wieder zurück. Dabei wird in Falconara Marittima gestürzt. (2/2)

Nach über 12 Jahren gibt es seit 9. Juni an Sommerwochenenden wieder eine direkte klassische IC-Verbindung zwischen #Bolzano / #Bozen 🇮🇹 und #Lecce.
Dabei wird das bestehende Zugpaar IC 609/610 Bologna <> Lecce verlängert. Die damals tägliche Intercity-Verbindung wurde Anfang der 2010er Jahre eingestellt.

While there is no news yet about the announced Alvia service from/to #Avilés 🇪🇸, tomorrow a new bus shuttle service "Lanzadera Alta Velocidad" will be introduced, smiliar to FrecciaLink in Italy. A second line runs to #PolaDeLaviana via #ElEntrego.

From 6 June 2024 the fourth #Alvia train pair between #Madrid 🇪🇸 and #Cadiz will be reinstated after being suspendend during the pandemic. This is possible thanks to the replacement of existing Alvia services by AVE using the new Talgo Avril train sets.
Departure at Madrid Atocha is at 9:10, from Cádiz at 16:24.

SŽ and HŽPP introduced on 24 April a new seasonal international train pair Villa Opicina 🇮🇹 - #Sežana 🇸🇮 - Šapjane - #Rijeka 🇭🇷 running daily until the end of Sep. A SŽ 510 Flirt EMU is used.
Unfortunately in the morning there is no connection train on the inner-italian section Trieste - Opicina (as it was the case with reg. trains in general in the past). In the opposite direction the existing AlpeAdria train service can be used from Opicina to Trieste C.le

From 21 May 2024 the new #Talgo Avril train sets will start to operate regular services, classified as "AVE". For the first time gauge-changing rolling stock is used for AVE trains allowing them to run on broad-gauge lines and include #Gijón, #ACoruña and #Vigo to the #AVE network.

Four months later than expected, today the new Ouigo Train Classique service between #Paris 🇫🇷 and #Rennes was introduced. It now seems to run daily rather than from Fridays to Mondays as originally planned. Departure at Paris Gare d'Austerlitz is between 8am and 9am and back from Rennes between 3pm and 4pm.

Now it's official: from tomorrow the new train pair between #Ventimiglia and #Cuneo via #Tende and Breil-sur-Roya will be operating. Departure from Cuneo at 8:41 am and from Ventimiglia at 2:55 pm.

This year you need to look a bit deeper into the new train timetables to find interesting modfications in 🇫🇷. For most lines only a few changes are shown.
One exception is a new direct #TER week-end service between #Bordeaux and #Royan changing its direction at #Saintes, which might be the first TER service like this. Departure is at 16:52 from Bordeaux on Fridays and at the same time from Royan back on Sundays. A Régiolis bi-mode is used.

Das regionale EVU "TUA" fährt seit dem #Fahrplan2024 an SO ein superschnelles R-Zugpaar zwischen #Roma Tiburtina 🇮🇹 und #Pescara Centrale - also auf RFI-Strecke. Ab 29.01. dann täglich.
Mit 3h15 Richtung Rom schneller als alle R.Veloce auf der Strecke. Zum Einsatz kommt ein Coradia 2.0 Stream Pop-Triebwagen.
Ist offenbar kein Konkurrenzprodukt (scheint im TI-Kursbuch auf), fährt aber dennoch zu einem eigenen Tarif. Leider kein Export in Hafas.

Mit dem #Fahrplan2024 gibt es wegen Bauarbeiten zwischen #Cluj und #Oradea längerfristig keinen Fernverkehr mehr über den Grenzübergang #Biharkeresztes 🇭🇺/Episcopia Bihor 🇷🇴.
Die gute Nachricht: Dafür verkehren jetzt mehr Regionalzüge zwischen Püspökladány 🇭🇺 und Oradea 🇷🇴, mit täglich fünf statt bisher nur zwei Zugpaaren.
Auch im innerungarischen Abschnitt wurde der Regionalverkehr ausgebaut. Nach Ende der Modernisierungarbeiten wird jetzt wieder mit Vmax 100 km/h und im Stundentakt gefahren.

Für Abenteurer:innen vielleicht nicht ganz uninteressant: Mit Fahrplanwechsel ist Turňa nad Bodvou 🇸🇰 Schnellzug-Halt auf der Strecke #Košice - #Zvolen geworden und wird dadurch überhaupt wieder von Zügen bedient (Nahverkehr gibt es zwischen Moldava und Jesenské nicht).
Mit ca. 2 Stunden Fußmarsch wäre von dort der Bahnhof #Tornanádaska 🇭🇺 erreichbar. Das ist zwar immer noch viel, aber nur mehr halb so weit wie von Moldava. Der grenzüberschr. Abschnitt wird leider nicht befahren.

Oha 😮: Der IC 44-45 zwischen #Wien 🇦🇹 und #Košice 🇸🇰 umfährt ab sofort den Hauptbahnhof in #Bratislava, hlavná stanica.
Stattdessen wird die Schleife ab Nové Mesto Richtung Osten gefahren mit Halt in Bratislava predmestie. Der Fahrzeitgewinn zwischen Wien und Košice beträgt je nach Richtung ca. 30-45 Min.
Neu sind auch die Halte in Liptovský Mikuláš und bei den übrigen ICs in Vinohrady.

Außerdem: In Frankreich gibt es neue Nachtzug-Verbindungen nach #Aurillac🇫🇷 und #Cerbère🇫🇷. Italien testet ein neues Konzept mit Retro-Nachtzügen in die #Dolomiten🇮🇹. Und ab März 2024 wird der European Sleeper bis #Prag🇨🇿 verlängert (Karte: European Sleeper)
