A week and a half into my Facebookless month, and I am no longer getting tempted to take a peek. I do miss a couple of the Facebook groups, but not the stream of adverts. I also miss not being able to check the state of roads on local groups. The all pervasiveness includes
- A political party sending news update emails, each of which is a link to a Facebook story.
- Businesses saying "for opening times see <Facebook>
- Search results returning Facebook pages

In my attempt to be Facebook free in January I realised how pervasive it is. My rules were that I could go on quickly to check outages etc, and when I did this I noticed a couple of posts from a local environmental group. Though tempted to look I didn't but it leaves me feeling out of the loop. A lot of local events are also advertised in Facebook groups.

I decided that for the New Year I would do without Facebook for a month, allowing myself two exceptions. The first is if I need to check the status of some incident or issue in the town. The second is if I get messaged for help by the moderators of an ex school pupils' Facebook group for which I am the admin.
Today I went on quickly as my internet is down, just long enough to see that it is not just me, then log out again. I will write about experience soon.
