So, hab’ meinen Beitrag zum Global Switch Day geleistet und meine diversen Facebook-Bubbles mal auf Friendica hingewiesen, schön mit knallbuntem Logo, das allen ins Gesicht springen wird. Mal sehen, ob ich mir damit mein Facebook-Konto verbrannt habe. Falls nicht – hoffentlich springt irgendjemand drauf an. Ist ja immerhin Wochenende.
Warum nicht Hubzilla, wo ich doch selbst da bin? Weil es wahrscheinlich schon schwierig genug sein dürfte, Leute, die nicht gerade Techies und FLOSS-Nerds sind, auch nur zu Friendica zu bekommen. Da will ich ihnen nicht die steilste Lernkurve des Fediverse zumuten. Und zu Friendica gibt’s zumindest Android-Apps.
Na ja, ganz einfach wird’s ja schon aus noch anderen Gründen nicht. Beispielsweise sind die meisten News- und Blogposts über das Fediverse aus einer Zeit, als die Leute™ anscheinend nur von Twitter fliehen wollten. Also ist entweder alles, was nicht Mastodon ist, nur eine Randnotiz, die gerade mal einen Nebensatz wert ist. Oder Fediverse und Mastodon werden sogar als deckungsgleich behandelt.

I deleted my Facebook account. Feels weird. I had no family members on Facebook anyway believe it or not so that wasn't holding me back, but there were several niche groups on there I still had been participating in; I can't seem to find equivalents for them on the Fediverse or elsewhere. I might try to change that myself in the near-ish future.
At this point the only centralized social media I still use is YouTube, Twitch, and Discord.

I posted my #FacebookExit message this evening:
“I appreciate all the fun and interesting things you’ve all shared here. But other social media services exist that aren’t currently run by a coward and are very easy to join, so I see no logical reason to stay here. I’ve deleted my Threads and Instagram accounts, and will delete my Facebook account before too long.
“I hope to continue to hear from you somewhere, and if not, I wish you all the best and thank you so very much.”

Just deleted my Facebook account, not been using it for a while, but due to the recent changes it’s clear that they don’t care about their users anymore. It was bad before, but now it’s just going to get worse. I’m done.

Leaving WhatsApp is hard – at least that's what I thought a few years ago, until I simply did it.
If not via Telegram, Matrix etc., I still reach everyone of my contacts by email or SMS/RCS. I'm only missing out of some rather unimportant group chats (which I really don't miss at all). Everything that's important reaches me by email or phone.
This is a good point to just try it!
