I know it'll be 24/7 location tracking, but something that at least isn't tied to a major surveillance company like #Google, #Apple or #Amazon, or force me to keep their app running 24/7 like #Tile / #Trackr.

Ideal would be self hosted, but honestly I'd love any idea more private than an Apple Air Tag.

Any ideas / boosts appreciated!

Привет, Хабр! Многие знают, что один из четырех всадников апокалипсиса типов собеседований в Бигтех – это так называемое "Behavioral interview". Этот тип собеседований вполне заслуженно считается самым недооцененным среди всех остальных. Казалось бы… Прийти и поговорить про опыт и поотвечать на всякие дурацкие вопросы непонятно зачем. Процесс собеседований в Бигтех разнится от компании к компании, но везде есть Behavioral. На это собеседование приходят интервьюеры, как правило выше чем тот, на который вы собеседуетесь.Очень часто это человек, который будет принимать решение, брать ли вас к себе в команду. Почему же это настолько важно, что 25% вашего успеха (возможно, даже больше) на финальном этапе зависит от прохождения этой части? На текущий момент у меня было 6 собеседований в Бигтех, и только один раз у меня получилось пройти эту часть. 5 раз я слышал что-то вроде "Не хватило конкретики, на ваш опыт мы ожидали большего".

#Tech companies finally realize that #SS7 is #insecure. Phone calls and texts can't be #trusted. Machine-learning-generated ("AI") audio and video means video and voice calls are doubly cursed - too many #FAANG executives have had embarrassing public #failures, falling #victim to the corporate equivalent of the grandparent #scam.

Few people use #TOTP, because the tech #companies don't promote it, they each call it something else and make it work differently, and they all want you to use their "app" rather than the standard 3-line script that can generate the correct code given a key and the current timestamp. The technically-minded try to educate their relatives and friends as part of the free-tech-support assumption, but no one cares.

#Account #recovery now involves waiting at home to sign for an envelope delivered by the lowest-cost (and therefore bribe-able) courier to the #registered home address of the account. Millions each year lose their email, #photos, videos, "purchased" digital #content, password vaults, etc because they've moved since they set up the account, or they have a P.O. box and companies don't believe those #exist.

The #internet is a vast digital #wasteland - wait, a saviour onstage: "Walled Garden-Net!".

Привет, Хабр! Сегодня я расскажу вам про мой путь от 0 до 500+ задач на Leetcode. Сначала, пару слов о себе: достаточно слабое образование, завалил кучу собеседований на алгоритмы (например, в Авито где-то в 2020 году), никогда не умел решать задачи, и не любил. Долгое время узнав о секции алгоритмов просто отказывался от собеседований. Сейчас не боюсь и могу. Даже в Бигтех эту секцию проходил несколько раз. Я делал всякий фронтенд, потом стал делать бекенд (на NodeJS), но алгоритмы никогда не получались. И вот, засучив рукава, я решил разделаться с этим безобразием раз и навсегда. I understand that using #Linux for #privacy is like the boy plugging the holes in the dike with his fingers. Everything I do online is monitored by one or more of the #faang no matter what I do (or I guess the acronym should be #manga now that Facebook is now Meta). It's just the principle of having to log into your own hardware like it was a website is so abhorrent to me. I should not have to beg #microsoft or anyone else for permission to use my own computer!

Across both orgs, we're at the lower-mid-7-figure scale; and it's not likely we will reach the 8 figure scale within the decade without substantial changes to the value propositions we offer and the rate we offer them.

Now it's hard to ascribe individual blame to a lack of collective consciousness, but sometimes you do have to ever so gently head-butt someone (colloquially speaking) to get them to see their small part in the overall crime.

I was just reading a toot today about how horrible Amazon's hiring practices are.
Yet Amazon has no issues finding people willing to work for them.

But it can get better.

You know how all these "data takeout" tools from Google and Facebook and so on take ages to create a little Zip file with your content, and email you a few hours later when it's done? I've always wondered what's so complex about that, it should be mostly the same database query as for your profile page...

Just had an idea: what if this is intentional and a purely a artificial delay to prevent people from using it as a sort of realtime feed? 🤔

С 90% вероятностью многие из вас видели десятки, сотни и тысячи вакансий, где в требованиях был указан именно Fluent английский. Но в голове у вас идея, что нужен именно C1. Почему так? Есть старое и отличное исследование про внимательность, которое показывает, что мы видим то, что хотим видеть и на чём мы сфокусированы. Сейчас часто используется термин «информационный пузырь».
