Note how they have expanded to a variety of different locales: the City of Los Angeles, Seattle, Columbus (Ohio), and even the Canadian province of Ontario are all reflected, as well as the E-ZPass and SunPass multi-state toll payment systems, which together cover most of the US states that operate toll roads.

Since the middle of Oct. 2024, Talos has seen ongoing #smishing attacks impersonating U.S toll road automatic payment services (such as #ezpass with the intent of financial theft. The actors have so far sent SMS messages to individuals in about eight states in the U.S., including Washington, Florida, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Texas, Ohio, Illinois, and Kansas. Does anyone know anyone at Kapsch (Kapsch.net)? Do they even exist as a company anymore? I keep emailing aliases and they're all defunct. The spec registration page has a broken email sender, and I can't get a copy of the TDM spec.

For comparison: I tried to mimic the #EZpass system in pure SQL. The schema was around 300 lines. Every toll plaza calling an SQL function when a car goes through. Including the scanned license plate. The around code was slim. And materialized views accessible to the Web frontend immediately - The Statement materialized view and last transactions per user for 180 days.
And calling replenishing when the account balance of a user goes under the individual limit via an SQL trigger.
