    #Day31 Favourite drama of 2024

My 10/10 watches this year were:
    Mr. Plankton
    My Demon
    My Liberation Notes 2022
    Memories of the Alhambra 2018
    Mr. Sunshine 2018
And there were a lot of others that rated 9/10 or higher. So, it's been a great watching year!

  2. #EYDC2024 #kdrama

    #Day31 Favourite drama of 2024

Without much suspense it is Mr Plankton.

I can't stress enough how emotionally contrasting and intense this drama is.
It also carries very important messages like giving second chances to people, forgiving and forgetting, seeing the real person behind the shields they've put forward.

And it's funny. Not a single episode in #MrPlankton is boring.

  3. #EYDC2024 #kdrama

#Day30 Was 2024 a good drama year for you?

Yes, definitely! And it wrapped up beautifully yesterday with the last episode of #SquidGameS2

Though it's not really a full season, they split up one season in two parts, and the first 2 episodes were a bit slow and boring, it finished with some unexpected plot twists.

#Day28 Something you want to see in more dramas

The #kdrama world doesn't restrain from showing and even criticizing every aspect of their society. This is one of the big reasons why I love k-dramas and I am less attracted to c-dramas, for instance.

Nevertheless I believe more dramas could come out about life in North Korea.

And the abuse #kpop trainees go through hasn't yet been fully disclosed.
I'm currently watching #Namib and I hope it will meet my expectations.

#Day27 A 2024 drama too few people watched
The majority of the 2024 shows that I watched got a lot of hype and views, with the possible exception of #WhatComesAfterLove an interesting exploration of an inter-cultural romance.
However, the underwatched drama that I watched in 2024 was definitely #Misty with Kim Nam Joo and Ji Jin Hee doing amazing work in a high-tension show. I know that at least a couple of folks here watched it at my recommendation.

  7. #EYDC2024 #kdrama

#Day27 A 2024 drama too few people watched

    Definitely Branding In Seongsu.

It has an intriguing plot, the from-enemies-to-lovers romance trope and complex characters.

It's just too short. I would have liked more episodes to better develop the characters background.

#Day26 Most disappointing drama of 2024

It's a tie between Lovely Runner and Queen Of Tears.

I am most disappointed in dramas that start very well, the hype is totally deserved, and then they become too cliché. It may be the love story becoming too cheesy, the balance in the couple totally missing or even a character too caricatural.

  9. #EYDC2024

#Day26 Most disappointing drama of 2024
Nearly a tie for this. Both were released in 2023 but continued into this year.
#SweetHome2 scored a whopping 1.5/10 for me, only because of the 3 scenes that contained Song Kang. A total clunker.
#MoonInTheDay came out slightly ahead at 2/10 but I believe that I overrated that one. Pretty much everything about it was awful but FL did very well in the first 3 episodes or so.
Other than these 2 shows, everything I've watched scores 5+.

    #Day25 Favorite romance of 2024

Though somehow toxic, my favorite romance is Mr Plankton.

I also liked the romance in the J-drama Eye Love You, as well as the K-dramas Branding In Seongsu, Serendipity's Embrace and The Atypical Family.

    #Day25 Favourite Romance of 2024
I think that for me, #QueenOfTears was a romance that I fully invested in, with an estranged married couple rekindling their romance and fighting all of the obstacles. It was a terribly ciichéd show but the side characters and locations added a lot to it, as did #KimJiWon as Hong Hae-In and #KimSooHyun as Baek Hyun Woo. The Crash Landing On You writing team know many of the magic ingredients we love.

    #day24 Favorite costumes of 2024
My favourite costumes that I saw in 2024 were absolutely in #EmpressKi where I'm told that the costumes were more than half the budget. They were utterly amazing, so colourful and so sparkly! The wardrobe crew must have busy nonstop on that set.
I also loved the costumes in #MyDemon, including Song Kang's fluffy clavicle-bearing sweaters and her sword-dance hanboks.
H/T to hand-knit sweaters in many shows like Virtuous Business.

    #day24 Favorite costumes of 2024

Though I dropped this drama, the most beautiful costumes of the year are featured on Queen Of Tears.

Valentino, Ralph Lauren, Christian Dior... They must have spent a stellar budget on costumes!

#Day23: An innovative drama that I watched in 2024.
There are really so many but I'll choose #Pachinko.
I was so taken with this book and was excited to watch the drama based on the book, starring one of my favourites, #LeeMinHo, along with a stellar cast of multilingual actors.
When I was watched S1, I was taken aback by the frequent timejumps, back and forth between generations. After rereading I loved my rewatch and now S2. Cast speaks English/Korean/Japanese

#Day23 An innovative drama you watched in 2024

More than innovative, I found #TheTrunk atypical in the K-drama world. Though it's not one of my favorites, it doesn't sugarcoat violence or sex and it does show everything.

    A 2018 drama that I watched in 2024 and gave a 10 to was #MyMister.
We watched in honour of #LeeSunKyun following his death by suicide. His acting, and that of #IU were stunning, as was the story, the direction, the cinematography, and the OST.
It's a bleak story and show for the most part but illustrates magnificently the power of having a single person who believes in you.

It's hard to pick because so many dramas are dear friends but there also so many I haven't yet seen! Dramas I did rewatch this year include:
    #DoomAtYourService
    #TheKingEternalMonarch
    #TheHeirs
    #UncontrollablyFond
    #MrPlankton
I'd probably go back to any of them as well as #Healer
    I may also rewatch

    #MyDearest

  21. End of the Year Drama Challenge

    Day 20

A drama that made you sad or cry

    *From this year:

    -Joy of Life 2
There were many moments when it made me cry, especially the ones where the Fan family is involved. Fan Jian saying he's proud of Fan Sizhe. Or when Fan Xian tells Fan Jian and Madam Fan his surname will be Fan in the future. Or when the old censor died.

-Let Free the Curse of Taekwondo
It was a sad show with the precise dose of hope. But some parts made me cry because of how raw they were.

*Shows I watched this year that are not from this year but made me cry:

-Oh, no! Here Comes Trouble (2023)
I cried a lot. But I also laughed a lot. And then I cried again. I loved it.

    -Nirvana in Fire (2015)
    -He's Coming to Me (2019)
-A Tale of Thousand Stars (2021)
    -Moonlight Chicken (2023)
-Under the microscope (2023) (yes, I cried with this one 😶)

    I think I am a cryer, oops

Mr Plankton and Queen of Tears were certainly weepy shows for me. However, the one that I recall really making me cry at the start of the year was #MyDearest Fabulous characters continually separated by tragic times.
    And then there was #EmpressKi!

#Day19 - A drama that made you laugh?
I've seen it recommended in a lot of lists and I had just finished/started watching several shows with a lot of tension so this comic relief came at the right time.
#GausElectronics never took itself too seriously. A fun office comedy.

  24. #EYDC2024 #kdrama

#Day19 A drama that made you laugh

I will pick 3 scenes that made me burst out with laughter. Two of them are not from 2024 dramas, but I watched them this year.

1️⃣ Woo Do-Hwan as Jo Eun-sup and Jo Yeong in The King Eternal Monarch, particularly when he talks in the Busan dialect
2️⃣ In Mr Plankton when Jae-mi goes for the politician's hair at the press conference
3️⃣ In High Society when Im Ji Hyeon rips Park Hyung Sik's shirt

    🤣🤣🤣

Well, romcom/romance is overwhelmingly what K-drama churns out so that's my most consistent watch. Some romances are definitely FAR better than others!
I watched a lot of historicals early in the year but overdid it with 3-4 that I watched at the same time!
Some of the shows I enjoyed the most this year were action/suspense/thriller. They are so captivating to watch when done well!

Jang Ki-Yong is the actor who surprised me the most this year. I didn't think he could pull a role like the one in #TheAtypicalFamily
He had always played the alpha male before. Strong, confident and powerful. In that drama he becomes a mess of a man. An alcoholic negligent father, emotionally unavailable and rude to every other human being.

For me, 2024 was a year for #KimJiWon, who I watched in Queen of Tears, My Liberation Notes, Lovestruck in the City, Arthdal Chronicles, The Heirs, and Descendants of the Sun. I've appreciated her range, although she often plays a character who is aloof.

    #Day16 Best actress of 2024

I believe the best female role in 2024 has been interpreted by Park Min-young in Marry My Husband.

The way she acted as a cancer patient first to later slowly evolve into a strong and confident woman was absolutely remarkable. She's a great actress.

This show is #CurrentlyAiring with only 2/8 episodes left. For the first 2 episodes of #LightShop, I had no idea what the story was or how the scenes were connected. By the end of #3, I had one idea and by the end of #4, another. There are some fabulous actors in this series and I'm very invested in finding out their stories and how they connect. If you like #horror, you should really love this one.

#Day14 A remake or an adaptation you watched in 2024.
#MyDearest was an epic historical drama based on a period when Korea was occupied by the Qing. It borrowed heavily from Gone With The Wind. The drama was amazing, very emotionally draining as the leads went from tragedy to tragedy during incredibly difficult times. #NamkoongMin particularly shone as the ML.

#Day14 A remake or an adaptation you watched in 2024.

Sweet Home, adapted from a Naver webtoon.
I enjoyed season 1 but dropped season 2.
It got too dark and gloomy. Even the violence was increased without the need for it. Funny how sometimes violence becomes a tool to fill up a k-drama just like nudity and sex in many Western productions.

Day 13: Drama I found boring.

There were definitely several that fizzled out after the 1/2way point but the one that was horrid from the start was #SweetHome season 2!! I only kept at it because I watched it with @whoosh and apparently, misery loves company! There were only 8 shows and they were the longest shows I've watched. I just kept it on as background noise in the final half, in case 1 of the 3 interesting characters showed up.

The drama that kept my riveted IN 2024 was #EmpressKi with #HaJiWon and #JiChangWook. I never would have guessed that a 51-episode historical drama could capture my attention throughout but it did.
The new dramas that kept me going were #MrPlankton, as previously mentioned, and I loved the journey in #QueenOfTears with a wide range of characters and locations as well as amazing acting by #KimJiWon and #KimSooHyun
