Day 31: Favourite drama of 2023?

Limiting it to 2023 dramas that I saw, I will pick "Destined with You."

I love the high contrast of physical comedy with serial killers - when it's done well. I love trying to figure out the mystery - even if I have to suffer while waiting for the past lives to be revealed. I loved the symbolism & the cinematography.

But probably the thing that made it the best for me was viewing it via a watchparty with new kDrama friends from Mastodon (Fediverse) that I made this year. They caught things I didn't, gave me different perspectives, & made me LOL a lot. The joint viewing was the icing on the cake that made this drama my favourite of the 2023 dramas I saw.

  3. End of the Year Drama Challenge
Day 30: Was 2023 a good rama year for you?

The *** best *** so far!!!!
(Since it's my first full year being a kDrama fan - it's easy to say it's the best)

    What's great about kDrama?

    1) kDrama has been shown to be good for depression

    2) A great kDrama (& other Asian drama) community in the Fediverse (Mastodon)

    3) Great art leads to more great art - dramas/film led to music

    4) Learned to cook some Korean dishes

    5) Started learning the Korean language

    Day 29: A 2024 drama that you're excited for?

    ***** Dr. Slump *******
It was supposed to be out in 2023, but was delayed for some reason!

But I'm also looking forward to many dramas from my other favorite actors. See a great list here:

Day 28: Something you want to see in more dramas?

Getting up there in age makes me want to see more older characters dealing with what life has thrown at them, in relationships, friendships, work & career, those moments that make you stop & evaluate where you've been & where you're going & whether it's worth it.

In some dramas, the side characters sometimes deal with one or two of these things. But life hits hard later & it would be interesting to see the kDrama world address that.

Day 27: A 2023 drama too few people watched?

Of the ones I watched, I don't think enough love was given to "Our Blooming Youth" - great mystery & great acting.

But I did notice several here on the IMDB top ratings that I haven't even seen yet! More for the plan-to-watch list!!

Day 30: Was 2023 a good drama year for you?

    But, of course!
I started out the year as a person who had avoided all TV for 14 years. I was quite happy with thatI had no cable or streaming. However, several folks here on Mastodon made reference to K-drama and in April of this year, I saw an invite to a weekly #watchparty. I enjoyed watching with a group. By early July, I had 2 streaming services, started bingeing, and learning 한글. Obsessed now.

Day 28: something you want to see in more dramas

    For #kdramas

This year has been a disappointing year in #Kdramas for some reason. I'm not sure why. All I'm asking for is a more coherent script and rom coms that don't have serial killers lol

Day 28: something you want to see in more dramas

For #CDramas - this may be controversial, but I am tired of seeing talentless traffic actors in dramas. There are talented ones, of course - I consider Xu Kai & Cheng Yi some of them, but there are some so bad and are given leading roles I get annoyed. Why? Because a lot of actors who are second leads are actually better actors. I pretty much dislike how the industry works at times.

Day 28: something you want to see in more dramas
Since I'm only watching #kdrama and at least 2/3s of them involve some sort of a romance, is it too much to ask that they include good kissing?!?! It would be challenging to choose a worst kiss. So many of them involve the leads just putting their lips in the same place, often while staring up at the sky! I can probably count a handful of good kisses in all of the shows that I've watched.

Day 25: Favorite romance of 2023?
Since it has to be this year, I'll choose #MyLovelyLiar
This was a very fun joint currently airing watch. The ending of the mystery was problematic but I was really rooting for these 2 isolated leads to fully connect with each other and that happened.

    day27 A 2023 drama few people watched
Since it has to be something from this year, I'll choose #DailyDoseOfSushine, the story of a nurse in a closed psychiatric ward. There were some excellent examples of psychiatric difficulties and how they affected friends and family. Interesting cinematography.

Day 26: Most disappointing drama of 2023?

The worst disappointment this year was "Heartbeat." Ok Taec Yeon is a fabulous actor & the story started so well, but the last 1/2 was just a mess. Unfortunately, I watched this while airing, so I sat through the whole thing just hoping it would redeem itself.

I would have also said "Strong Girl Namsoon" but I expected it to be bad from the start, so wasn't too disappointed.

    Day 25: Most Disappointing Drama
No competition: Moon in the Day was just SO bad after a few first enticing episodes that offered an interesting past life story, a strong female lead, and a drama idol for interest. It went so far downhill from there and wins a worst prize in SO many categories, particularly wardrobe and makeup. It seems like the baseline for a k-drama is that it's pretty!?! Anyway, hatewatching got ahold of me and didn't let go.

Day 24: Favorite costumes of 2023?
Hands-down, this goes, once again, to #MyDemon! My eyes light up to see the loveliness of their wardrobe. There are a few unusual choices that I don't love but there are so many uniquely gorgeous outfits like this lovely hunter green jacket, paired with the oversized crescent moon, worn by Gu-Won. Do-Hee wears mainly white or black (good or evil) suits that are tailored to perfection.

Day 25: Favorite romance of 2023?

If I knew the ending, I might pick "My Demon" because the chemistry there is outstanding. But I'm not sure how it will end.

I know I'm in the minority with this, but of the 2023 dramas I watched, "Destined with You" was my favorite romance. Loved watching him slowly fall and seeing her love grow.

"Perfect Marriage Revenge" does get an honorable mention.

Day 24: Favorite costumes of 2023?

I'm not a fan of the super oversized look, so I was thrilled to see the costumes in "My Demon" - the design, the colors & the coordination between the characters is gorgeous. I still can't believe pink checks can be a power suit - but they made it look great.

Honorable mention goes to "The Story of Park's Marriage Contract" because the current hanbok fashions with that beautiful embroidery are just amazing.

Also to "The Matchmakers" - love Rowoon's pinks & lilac, super long-sleeved silk robes & the FLs colorful hanboks are stunning.
