World Bank Atlas 2026: Extreme poverty drops to 10% globally, But 600 million more could be added by 2050

The most worrying if-then conclusion of the Atlas of Global Development 2026 is that the world may soon start to see the number of those living in extreme poverty start to climb instead of decline. Many of the nations where poverty continues to be highest have stalled in making progress.

It's been one of the most powerful symbols of the class and racial apartheid in Latin America ever since it was first built in the 80s, at the height of the mass migration to the cities and armed struggle led by Shining Path. Though the wall is being torn down, neoliberalism and the severe poverty on the outskirts of Lima remain.
