Why does this happen at all? Our independent tracking-free email music newsletter on kliklak.net, running on Mailman, now gets boycotted by our own shared host (Grrrmph!) after almost 25 years of operation.
The shared host started using spam protection 3rd party providers, that don't allow for more than 100 emails being sent per hour. I don't even mind that limit, it would only mean, that our 1500 subscribers are getting their info in batches of 100.
Instead of sending in batches the provider drops all subscribers above 100 completely though, and even started mass-unsubscribing them. Any talks to the shared host support were unsuccesful. #encrappification going on.
Do not make a hosting account on hostforweb.net. The were great back then: ONLY.

I haven't listened to modal/droney dark terrorizing folk guitar playing for a long time, most of it seems too clean, too nice. Yet THIS is dirty and dark and almost limitless, a steam locomotive just before the boiler explodes.
No wonder her battled guitar was made by "Waterloo".

Thanks to a hint by @eric st-laurent I'd like to recommend John Kameel Farah + Nick Fraser on "Farahser", a brilliantly brief study on piano, drums and electronics, that goes anywhere between far-translated baroque music (you won't recognize it anymore), (hearing even Olivier Messiaen), "contemporary" jazz, not the kind, where players celebrate themselves rather than music itself. -> "players that thrive in spontaneous settings, but whose main artistic focus lies beyond improvised music as a codified genre."

Alle guten Dinge sind drei? Well, anyhow, a third finding from Bex Burch' line-up of their later show in Berlin today. Training Band: GruppenTRAINING - a suitable title i guess, cause that's what they did. Johannes Schleiermacher (sax, flute, synth) + Max Andrzejewski (drums, synths, electronics, voice) edited takes from 5 live occasions incl. a whole big cast of collaborators into a long-form two-track release, free music again, yet focussed and nicely otherworldly at times. Works well with me especially in part II.

This album enchants me with 28 mostly solo pieces. There is lots of fine work on nylon and steel strings, much beyond common worn-out harmonic structures, coming instead from a well-educated complex classical guitar place, and without ever getting theoretical. Lovely dynamic pieces in a mostly dry space. Jesse has completely avoided adding artificial spaces and similar exaggerations of reality into this, making this a private and pleasant listen, perfectly fitting this particularly timeless & relaxed day of the year. Enjoy.
