  3. Playing around with magnets and 3D printing for a bit. For the record, the vertical magnets don't work (if I knew anything about physics, I would have known), so I'll just have to get smaller magnets and tweak the design.

  7. “These four multitools are artifacts from the Roman Empire circa AD 100–200. They are severely anomalous…There’s not a whisper about them in any historical document. Held in the hand, gazed at, it looks weird and it acts weird. Its decor is weird and its engineering is weird. It’s the weirdest multitool in the world.” bruces.medium.com/ancient-ever via @bruces re: #everydaycarry ancient #multitools + #experimentalarchaeology

  8. Early Homo sapiens may have hunted with bows and arrows in Eurasia 40,000 years ago. New experiments show ancient bone points fit multiple weapons, challenging linear tech timelines. #Paleolithic #Archaeology #HumanEvolution #ExperimentalArchaeology anthropology.net/p/before-the-

  9. About 12 years ago, @clipo and Hunt introduced their #WalkingMoai hypothesis 👣🗿 about how the monumental sculptures on #EasterIsland Rapa Nui may have been moved from the quarries to their final locations, combining oral tradition and #ExperimentalArchaeology.

In a recently published "response to critics" in J. Archaeol. Sci. 183, 2025 they now present new archaeological evidence and experimental validation:

  18. Hey, psssst! Does anyone care for some... fake roast venison? It's medieval! And super, super sweet! Aaand it is fancy - it brings it's own BLING! (I mean gilded almonds! Whoa!) And basically it's vegan, because it is a christian Lenten dish from the 1. printed German Cookbook from 1485. Have a look at it (and at my fail during cooking this. 😅). Experimental archaeology in action.

  19. Being a good Christian and still wanting to show off your wealth? This is how it worked in the Middle Ages: "Rechproten in der vasten" is a recipe for fake roast venison. Basically a sweet, vegan Lenten dish from dried fruits, spices, wine and rolls - expensive ingredients at this time. It's a recipe from the first printed German-language cookbook "Kuchemeysterey" from 1485 .

  20. Okay, so - this is the first real video on my brand new YT-Channel. 🙈

Click on the link if you are interested in experimental (food) archaeology and medieval arabic recipes (this is for a really delicious, simple salad from a manuscript from the 13th century). 😊

(Yeah, I know - sound and video dimensions are not ideal. It's a first try and a steep learning curve. I have video material for some other recipes but definetely a micro and maybe a new camera are necessary in the future. )

  21. Delicious Dinars - an easy and really delightful recipe for a veggie/vegan carrot salad from the 13th century cookbook Al-Wusla (Scents and Flavors).

To be frank: I hate cooked carrots, but this is a recipe for haters fo cooked carrots. The vegetables still have a bite and are coated with a rich and creamy dressing with walnuts, tahin, vinegar, mint and parsley. I sweetened the dressing with honey but to get it full vegan you can use date syrup or modern alternatives.

Currently finishing an experimental archaeology MSc at #exeteruni.

Err, that'll do for now, I'm sure I'll get the hang of it sometime soon.
