Michael Foster, Leila Bordreuil and Chris Corsano trio at #DeDoelen in #Rotterdam, last Monday, was more than excellent. About an hour of #ExperimentalMusic
#noise #improvisation; a combination of drums, cello, and saxophone/clarinet including non-standard ways of getting sounds out of these instruments. The three well-attuned and in sync with each other, especially Bordreuil and Foster.The instruments were much more in balance, btw, than my poor quality smartphone could record, sax very much being on the foreground in the video.
Support Koude was more subdued than the trio mentioned above, but entertaining nonetheless. An act to keep an eye on, plus all other projects that they are involved in.

Yesterday as I was playing around with my Stylophone CPM DS-2 I was trying to give it some kind of rhythm. What I landed on had a pattern to it that I liked. For this track I left it without any effects applied at first, so for the first bit it is purely the CPM DS-2 drone synth.
As I listened to it I started to hear something that I liked and sounded familiar. I realized that I may have accidentally created The White Stripes song Seven Nation Army. At least that is what it sounded like to me.

For some months I've tried to find cassette recorders, and to work with cassette recordings in music works. So far I’ve not found any fully working devices. My last couple of releases have been from single session improv jams. Just setting stuff up and seeing what happens to then release the unedited results. I also like taking a picture of the setup and using that as the album art. I think I will keep doing that for these improvised pieces.

As you surely know by now I like to push the boundaries of music and my new track "Voices" does it more than most. It uses a single sample from one voice of an Opera (Carmen in case you want to know) fed through a granular synth, pitched and spread over the stereo field, combined with various pitch shifting techniques and loops.
The result is a cacophony of vocal snippets backed with an odd beat. Definitely experimental and not for the faint-hearted.
It was of course recorded live with no overdubs.
It is a "pay what you want" track on #Bandcamp, #mirlo, #jamcoop and #subvert
It was fun to make - which is the whole point of music and all art!
