  1. He is quite progressive. Hard to challenge him from the left.
Where do you land on term limits? I'm against them, I think there are good civil servants.
The real problem is closed primaries, no proportional representation, plus we need a federal law against gerrymandering.
Passing the Democracy for All amendment would end Citizens United; that's long game.

  4. @MariaHill @MJ Apparently no one had been really convinced of Clarence Thomas's judicial qualifications already at the time of his nomination in 1991.
    "...
Anticipating that the ABA [American Bar Association] would rate Thomas poorly, the [G.H.W. Bush] White House and Republican Senators pressured the ABA for at least the mid-level "qualified" rating, and simultaneously attempted to discredit the ABA as partisan.
    ..."
ABA committee majority awarded Thomas a frosty & sobering "qualified".

    — 7:7 in the Senate Judiciary Committee on motion to report favorably
    — 13:1 in the Senate Judiciary Committee on a motion to report without recommendation
    — Senate confirmation vote: 52:48

Note: Leonard Leo's Federalist Society had been founded only 9 years before Thomas's SCOTUS-nomination, as the self-proclaimed right-of-center antithesis to allegedly "liberal" ABA.
