If I asked you to name the most common causes of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI/PEI), what would you list?
And why?
Food for thought on what medical literature commonly - incorrectly - states as the most common cause of EPI: https://bit.ly/43E9wg5

Here is a summary (https://bit.ly/46OpN4J) of the new #SystematicReview on #ExocrinePancreaticInsufficiency in #type1diabetes and #type2diabetes including:
1. EPI 101
2. Why people with diabetes & healthcare providers should care
3. How many people w/ T1D & T2D get EPI
4. #PERT safety in #diabetes
5. PERT effect on #glucose
6. EPI vs #celiac and #gastroparesis in people with diabetes (you might be surprised, #gastrodon !)
7. If you suspect EPI...what should you do? -

What is it like to #run 🏃🏼♀️ 100k (62+ miles), and what does it take to do it when you have four chronic diseases (Type 1 #diabetes, #celiac, #Graves, and #ExocrinePancreaticInsufficiency)?
How much fuel does it take (A LOT)
How many pills did I swallow (and why?!)?
And - what on earth did my #glucose levels do while running an #ultramarathon for 16 hours and 16 minutes?
All answered 🙂 in my 100k #ultra recap here: https://bit.ly/DanaMLewis-2023-100k

I'm learning something new. It seems that in recent years, a third classification group has come into being, type 3c which has 3 major criteria to differentiate it from type 1 -- presence of exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, pathological imaging of pancreas, and an absence of autoimmune antibodies found in type 1 diabetics.
I don't have pathological imaging, but it may have been missed on both the ultrasound and mri...
