This bodes well for Life everywhere else in the Universe, it keeps finding a way!

Man who thought a chatbot was alive long after everyone else had moved on from that now thinks we're alone in the universe.

If you are interested in #exobiology and #astrobiology, 15 new videos were just uploaded to our Peertube server from the 2026 RED astrobiology training school:

This series is organized by the french astrobiology society (@exobiologie), but all the lectures are in english!

Ehm, pamatuje na "živou" a "mrtvou" vodu z českých pohádek?

@noracodes might also be worth looking in to #exobiology (aka #astrobiology ) and #xenobiology , where scientists directly study possible life on exoplanets. I don’t follow it enough to have a reading list, so the citations section of the Wikipedia page is the first place I’d look - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astrobiology

"Life Finds A Way"
Seems like Earth has been colonising the Solar System long before some technological apes got a notion.
But also, it could go both ways, couldn't it?

The search for life on other planets may be aided by borrowing diversity theory from ecology and applying it to evaluate the types and relative prevalences of organic molecules.

More space science funding in Germany - a DFG #Sonderforschungsbereich on #exobiology will be set up while the one on #astroparticle physics gets an extension:

Is #Mars already contaminated?
“Study authors declined to say whether A. calidoustus could have already made the journey to Mars”

NASA Begins Implementation for ESA’s Rosalind Franklin Mission to Mars
Scheduled to launch in 2028, Rosalind Franklin will be the first Mars rover to search for signs of past or present life under the Red Planet’s surface.

Rare Earth hypothesis but most planets with suitable conditions have mould on them.
Glorious for some, irritating for most.

I knew this would be coming, Fascists actually hate Science, despite demanding new weapons from it.
The joy of Discovery means nothing to them, it's all "Exploit, Exploit, Exploit!"
Answering one of the grand questions of the Universe "is Life everywhere in Space?" means nothing to a bunch of greedy rapist scum
-
Instead of "is there life elsewhere in the universe?" people should be taught to ask "what is the distribution of life in the universe?"
The classic framing of the question carries heavy assumptions which are likely false, and it misleads the public.

Exciting news from Space, nearby Teegarden's Star not only has planets, but planets in the right place possibly for Life.
Centauri Dreams has to be one of my most favourite things on the Internet, intelligent yet accessible and right up my street.Ad Astra!

"Failed Star" seems a bit pejorative, maybe Wolf 1130C wanted to be a Brown Dwarf?
Turns out phosphine is more common than we think and maybe not the biosignature we thought it was...

Meanwhile in #Enceladus:
' While the new findings do not show that there is life on Enceladus, Khawaja said they indicate there are complex chemical pathways at play that could lead to the formation of substances that could be biological relevant.
The results, he added, support plans by the European Space Agency (ESA) to investigate the moon for signs of life. "I think all the signals are green here for Enceladus," Khawaja said. '

Wow. Evidence suggestive of possible biology on Mars.

Where once there was Life so there will be again!

🤔 What exactly is “life?” Astrobiologists still have more questions than answers

Shame! I was hoping to book a trip to visit K2-18b to visit some aliens. Still a strong signal for liquid water! #Exoplanets #Astronomy #Science #Biology #Exobiology #Space #JWST 🧪🔭🧬 arXiv: doi.org/10.48550/arX...

Jack Farmer of NASA Ames chose sites from the Landing Site Catalog with exobiology potential - where remains of past life might be preserved. Mostly this meant sites with evidence of water such as channels or lake beds. The Viking sites were added for comparison but ranked low for exobiology potential. These were studied in 1995 to help plan future missions but not directed at a specific mission proposal.
After this we will see some more Russian plans.
