They are taking the piss aren’t they?
Or maybe just filling their boots before the coming reckoning (long overdue).

Rivian's CEO, RJ Scaringe, is getting a new pay package worth up to $5 BILLION! 🤯 This comes after a similar 2021 award was scrapped because the goals were 'unlikely' to be met.
Guess those targets got a serious refactor, eh? Is this the new 'it works on my machine' for executive comp?

🎯🎈 Who knew #tariffs were the new universal scapegoat for executive paychecks? Best Buy and #Target CEOs flex their econ degrees by predicting the sun will rise tomorrow—oh wait, prices going up! 🎢💸

More payment for failure in the private sector.... as water firms ensure that their directors continue to do OK while they customers suffer.
These sort of actions are exactly why defenders of capitalism have such a hard time; how does anyone defend paying (already well-paid) executives even more when the companies they manager are palpably failing to deliver the very service(s) they are mandated to?
Capitalism is eating itself!

#Tesla #shareholders have reaffirmed a pay award of >$45 billion for #ElonMusk, the chief executive, after it was thrown out in a #legal challenge.
The vote was seen as a referendum on his #management of Tesla & on #ExecutivePay.
The vote result is a strong sign that shareholders still believe in #Musk & it could persuade the judge who voided the award to reinstate it.

Only in the C-Suite.
One of AstraZeneca's larger shareholders has claimed the corporation's CEO, Pascal Soriot is 'massively underpaid'... ahead of a vote to give him a £1.8mn pay rise taking his salary to over £18mn.
The AGM will host a dispute between shareholders over the size of Soriot's salary settlement... but its worth noting; he's not even the most highly paid Big Pharma CEO.
Were these the workers the BoE was worried about getting above inflation rises?

The strikes would come as the #union & the #BigThree — #GeneralMotors, #Ford & #Jeep maker #Stellantis — remain far apart on #wages, #benefits & worker #schedules after weeks of acrimonious talks. The union is demanding a #WageIncrease of 36% over 4 years, while the #carmakers have boosted their offers to between 17.5% & 20% over 4½ years.
The union’s president, Shawn Fain, has called those offers inadequate after years of sharp #inflation & fat corporate #profits & #ExecutivePay. -
Make CEOs Take Pay Cuts
If firms are feeling the pinch of economic pressure, then executives should share in their employees’ sacrifices @newrepublic by Boen Wang #executivepay #recession -
City #FundManagers claim that to make the UK more competitive as a place for firms to list their shares, #executivepay needs to rise (further)... whether or not that is true, if they think shifts away from the #LondonStockExchange is the biggest problem for the UK's #corporate sector then #financialservices myopia is in full effect.
With stagnant #productivity, severe #inequality, a #costoflivingcrisis & tanking #internationaltrade, paying (even) more to failing managers is not the answer!
-
The head of the London Stock Exchange thinks that UK firms need to pay their executives more(!!) to stop firms listing in the USA stockmaket...
talk about a tin ear;
as the FT notes:
'Yet the cost of living crisis has put a focus on the widening gulf in pay between the top & bottom ranks of companies. The High Pay Centre & TUC research estimates that median FTSE 100 chief #executivepay in 2021 was 109 times that of the median full-time worker, up from 79 times in 2020 and 107 times in 2019.'
-
Research on the link between #managers & #productivity by LSE Prof John van Reenan suggests around a 1/3 of gap between firms' (countries') levels of productivity is attributable to #management not structural/market issues.
Despite high #executivepay in UK, our stagnant productivity 'growth' can be partly laid at the door of rubbish managers... I've said it before but financial management modes that treat #workers as a cost to be reduced are part of this problem!

I don't think many nonprofit admins follow me here, but I'm just going to put this out there: If you want my donations, don't overpay your executives. I just gave a nice chunk of cash to Radio Ambulante in part because founder & host Daniel Alarcon, gets a solid but not crazy salary, under USD 150k. I no longer give to WNYC, where the president gets $750k+. #Nonprofit #charity #donations #ExecutivePay #solidarity #PayReporters
