The Greek state is planning the eviction of “Oi Prosfygika” in Athens, one of the largest self-organized housing communities in Europe. This space represents collective living, social projects, and resistance against displacement.

About 5,000 people joined the annual march to commemorate the fatal shooting of Alexandros Grigoropoulos, who was 15 at the time.

As the march ended, hooded protesters set garbage containers on fire in the #Exarchia district, where the unarmed boy was shot dead by a policeman. The protesters hurled petrol bombs and stones at riot police, who responded with rounds of teargas.

Am 5. Dezember 2022 ist der 16-jährige Rom Kostas Fragoulis von einem Motorradpolizisten in #Thessaloniki/Griechenland erschossen worden. Knapp 3 Wochen später reagierten #Künstler*innen und #Aktivisten aus #Berlin und #Thessaloniki mit einer gemeinsamen Wandbild-Aktion in Zusammenarbeit mit den Angehörigen auf dieses Ereignis, das #Griechenland damals in Atem hielt.

Kostas starb nur 500 Meter entfernt von der #Roma-Siedlung, in der er lebte. Angeblich hatte er eine nahe gelegene Tankstelle verlassen, ohne Benzin im Wert von 20 Euro zu bezahlen. Nach einer Verfolgungsjagd mit zwei zufällig anwesenden #Polizisten fielen die tödlichen Schüsse. Der Vorfall löste in ganz #Griechenland #Proteste und zum Teil heftige Auseinandersetzungen mit der #Polizei aus. In mehr als zehn Regionen des Landes gab es koordinierte Revolten, die von den jeweiligen Roma-Vierteln und -Siedlungen ausgingen. Befeuert wurden sie auch durch die zeitliche Nähe zum 6. Dezember, dem Jahrestag der Ermordung des 15-jährigen Alexandros #Grigoropoulos durch einen Polizisten im linksalternativen #Athener Stadtteil #Exarchia im Jahr 2008. Nach Kostas Tod unterstützten linke Aktivist*innen die Proteste der Roma. Ein lokaler Aktivist aus Thessaloniki stellte den Kontakt zwischen den Künstler*innen, der Roma-Siedlung und den Angehörigen von Kostas her.

Prosfygika, die größte Besetzung Griechenlands mit circa 400 Bewohnenden, steht unter Angriff.
Die besetzte Nachbarschaft lebt seit 14 Jahren ein widerständiges, selbsorganisiertes Leben im Zentrum von Athen und erschafft Lösungsansätze für eine Gesellschaft jenseits von Staat, Macht und Gewalt. Die Bewohnenden organisieren und versorgen sich selbst und sind ein fundamentaler Bestandteil der anarchistischen Bewegung in Griechenland. #Prosfygika ist ein Beispiel für gelebten Internationalismus, Basisorganisation und praktische Solidarität mit Geflüchteten.

Prosfygika ist ein Dorn im Auge der konservativ-autoritären Regierung der Nea Demokratia. Repression und #Gentrifizierung setzen anarchistische Strukturen und ehemalige Freiräume wie das Viertel #Exarchia immer weiter unter Druck. Nach und nach soll so jede Bewegung zerstört werden, die sich Staat und Kapital widersetzt. Basisorganisation, Autonomie und solidarische Organisierung stehen diesem Projekt der engültigen Neoliberalisierung Griechenlands im Weg. Wir sind uns deshalb sicher, dass der Repressionsdruck auf die Nachbarschaft nicht nachlassen wird....

Athens has imposed a one-year ban on new Airbnb rentals in its central districts, including Koukaki, Plaka, and Exarchia, to address overtourism and homelessness.
