The fascinating and quirky Viltrox 28mm F2.5 CHIP has been released for L-mount. This is a super small lens that pairs well with super small camera bodies such as the Lumix S9 and Sigma FP. This lens inspires a different way to think about photography, and that's a good thing.

Quick question for analogue and manual focus fans out there...
What do you think AF schmuckos like me fail to understand when it comes to the joy of shooting manual? I'm road testing a little 50mm lens this week, and observing in real-time how AF vs MF changes the way my brain thinks about photography.
I bet there's a few folks around here who have been shooting MF for a long time and are wondering why I have been soooo slow to figure this out :)

Several weeks back I asked for thoughts on what people wished they understood a little earlier in their photography journey. Some of that proved very useful. Some of it was in a different direction to my brain at the time.
Here's the final outcome of that! I was working on a video idea, and now that video exists. It's a long chat, so maybe better to watch on the weekend with a cup of tea. It's not my usual short+sharp stuff. Hopefully not tooooooo boring for some folks to enjoy!

There are a lot of great lenses for L-mount cameras, but not every manufacturer is supplying for this mount. Tamron in particular have some great lenses that I really wish I could be shooting with on the L-mount bodies. Having just reviewed their new 12-20mm F2.8 lens, I have some thoughts on what is good and not so good about being an L-mount owner.

I'm in the doldrums with my YouTube journey. Struggling to find my solid ground. Maybe that will change soon. I have a plan for change.
But it's been intense looking for the right door to open. It's been a mind fuck. Watching advice about YouTube from other channels on YouTube is sometimes a bad idea.
Watching all this analysis of YouTube stars is a great way to make sure you end up trying to make the same videos that everyone else is making. That won't help me find my style. And deep down, I already know what I want my style to be. I just have to decide whether I'm willing to take that risk.
But it's getting easier. When you're only getting a few hundred views to a post, it's much easier to consider something bold.

In Arctic Norway I've been chasing auroras with two very very wide lenses by TT Artisan. They're manual focus, they're fast enough for night photography and they're very very affordable. I'm heading out into the Arctic night to capture the Northern Lights with a 14mm F2.8 and 11mm F2.8 Fisheye.
