  1. A post-doc position (2 yrs+) at National University of Singapore will be advertising soon on evolutionary game theory.

Model the evolution of punishment and collaborate with philosophers interested in moral debunking/vindication arguments. Email Prof. Ryan Chisholm for details.

Note: this was from a grant I wrote but I won't be able to take for family reasons, so there's flexibility here to shape the topic to your interests.

  2. Happy to join Mathematical Biosciences as an editorial board member. From what I hear I am not the only person in my group joining at this time but I am hoping to bring my expertise in #AgentBasedModels and #EvolutionaryGameTheory to model #CancerEvolution and #TreatmentResistance in the context of #Ecology

  4. Hi friends! My Emmanuel College research team and I are excited to share a new preprint, “Natural Selection for Collective Action”: arxiv.org/abs/2302.14700. I hope this work can bridge some longstanding divides, while opening new questions on collective behavior.

“Collective action” can be anything that organisms do collectively---bacteria forming biofilms, ants building “living bridges”, birds cooperatively raising young, lions hunting in groups. We attempt to answer why, how, and when such collective action evolves.

So far, there is no coherent theory for how evolution leads collectives to behave. Instead, evolutionary biology has sought to explain collective action as emerging from the evolved, self-organizing behavior of individual organisms. This individual-centric perspective can be valuable. But it sidesteps the question of why collective action can seem so well-designed and intentional. Is there no sense in which evolution acts directly on the actions of collectives?

  5. Hi all! For any mathematical biologists who will be at the #JointMathMeetings in Boston, I will be co-chairing a special session on "Mathematical Modeling of Ecology and Evolution: From Infectious Disease to the Evolution of Cooperation", together with Daniel Cooney, Chadi Saad-Roy, and Olivia Chu. Talks will span a wide range of interests--hope to see some of you there!
