In my ward, where no one had filed to run, 54 people voted for write-in candidates. The winner is a liberal Democrat who won't be afraid to stand up and fight for libraries and gay and trans rights.
A minimum of organization and a person willing to serve can make a difference.

I voted for the Dem then, but others stayed home.
If you do not vote, and the margin of the total vote is closer, you allow the reTHUGs to claim fraud
Or your local race goes to nutjobs
